Queens of the Stone Age kondigt hun nieuwe album aan getiteld Villains en verschijnt 25 augustus 2017 op Matador/Beggars. Misschien wel het beste Queens of the Stone Age album ooit, intens, eigen en recht uit het hart. De eerste single van het nog te verschijnen album is The Way You Used To Do. Op 12 november 2017 komt de band naar Nederland voor een concert in de Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, de voorverkoop begint donderdag 22 juni om 10:00 uur.
Het album klinkt uitdagend, dansbaar en energiek, Villains is geproduceerd door Mark Ronson, inderdaad, Mark Ronson, mede geproduceerd door Mark Rankin en gemixt door Alan Moulder. Oprichter/gitarist/zanger/tekstschrijver Joshua Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen (gitaar, toetsen), Michael Shuman (bas gitaar), Dean Fertita (toetsen, gitaar), Jon Theodore (drums) zijn hechter dan ooit en gedreven in hun spel en muzikale drift. Dit is QOTSA zoals we ze lusten, rauw en recht doorzee. Na het verschijnen van …Like Clockwork, juni 2014, heeft de band de toon gezet, het werd hun eerste nummer 1 album in de Billboard in Amerika en de twee daarop volgende jaren speelde QOTSA alles plat. Ze zijn beter dan ooit, standvastig en onverslaanbaar. Er is geen weg meer terug, er is geen ontkomen aan, Queens of the Stone Age presenteert u Villains.

Mark Ronson says, “Queens are and have always been my favorite rock n roll band ever since I walked into Tower on Sunset and bought Rated R in the summer of 2000, so it was incredibly surreal to be welcomed into their secret, pirate clan – or the ‘jacuzzi’ as Josh likes to call it. I also knew that my super fandom alone would not keep me in the jacuzzi. There were moments during the making of the album in which i was aware i was watching my musical heroes craft something that was sure to become one of my favorite moments on any Queens album. And to have some part in that felt like being in a dream–a very heavy, dark, wonderful dream.”
