RVG perform the tricky alchemy of combining rock’s urgency, punk’s anarchy, and pop’s empathy. A goodbye that’s devasting in its simplicity, ‘I Used to Love You’ is shattering, potent and powerful. Simple and sincere, the track breathes through the pain.
“There’s a lot of power in reclaiming yourself but also a lot of sadness. I adore Tom’s video and feel like it captures the energy of the song perfectly.” Romy explains.
The accompanying video is directed by documentarian and narrative filmmaker Tom Campbell (LION, 2016) and shot by Edward Goldner who has worked on videos for Courtney Barnett, Kimbra and Kllo.
“The idea was to create something very restrained, that in its simplicity would honour the intimacy and mystery of the song’s lyrics—with Romy’s powerful performance at the centre. There’s a lot left unsaid so we wanted to lean into the idea of the ‘portrait’, to create something unobtrusive yet deeply affecting. Something that wasn’t overly dramatic in its presentation, where nothing is explained, but the end result feels profound because it is raw and intriguing.” Film director, Tom Campbell, details.
The single-shot music video explores the isolating pain of a breakup. Featuring RVG
Recorded at Head Gap studios with producer Victor Van Vugt (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Beth Orton), ‘Feral’ is RVG’s first full-length release in three years.
The band have two big tours of Australia and New Zealand in the coming months supporting Pixies on their Australian tour in March, and also supporting Faith No More on their arena tour in May.
New album ‘Feral’ is a catharsis, a call to arms, and a forthright indictment of contemporary complacency where isolation is incited but it never feels hopeless.
Both a cry for help and a call to action, this is an album that demands your attention.
