DJ Shadow kondigt zijn nieuw album Our Pathetic Age aan dat zal verschijnen op 15 november. Dit dubbelalbum is het resultaat van een intense creatieve periode waarin deze innovatieve hiphopper nog meer experimenteerde met composities en beats.
De eerste helft van Our Pathetic Age bevat 11 nieuwe instrumentale tracks, inclusief een eerste volledig zelfgecomponeerd orkestraal nummer. Op de tweede helft staan vocale nummers waarop onder andere Run The Jewels, Nas en Dave East te horen zijn.
In juli gaf DJ Shadow ons na twee jaar al een voorproefje met zijn single Rocket Fuel waar ook De La Soul op te horen is. Our Pathetic Age werd geproduceerd door DJ Shadow zelf en de hoes is ontworpen door Paul Insect die ook de covers DJ Shadow’s albums The Mountain Will Fall (2016) en The Outsider (2006) verzorgde.

Zijn performance van Nobody Speak feat. Run The Jewels op de Tonight Show (2016) leidde naar een #1 positie in de Billboard’s Dance/Electronic charts. Het nummer verscheen in verschillende reclamespots en was in 2018 het meest gedraaide hip-hop nummer op de alternatieve radio.
