The Howl & The Hum have released e their brilliant debut album ‘Human Contact’ via AWAL.
“Human Contact” is full of songs drawn from across the emotional spectrum, where wonderful lyrics and ambitious songwriting combine with both musical restraint and epic, horizon-sized choruses to create a wonderful debut record. It has been produced by Jolyon Thomas (Royal Blood, Slaves, U2) and recorded at Big Jelly Studios in Kent.
On the album frontman Sam Griffiths says:
“Human Contact” is about a very modern kind of loneliness: one in which we are reminded of intimate moments which haunt us, via technology or through isolation. This album is both a breakup record and a love letter to memory, and the fading definition of human contact itself.”
“Recorded in September 2019, this album was written before society fell into a period of self-isolation, which goes to show the importance of Human Contact in a digital age.”
“Hostages” is one of the many highlights taken from “Human Contact”, with some of frontman Sam Griffiths most affecting lyrics, married to an expansive musical backdrop, creating a pure emotional rush.
Sam talks about the song and the video:
“This song felt very visual to us: the handing back of possessions after a breakup, the detachment from objects. Luckily, The Roosens had the idea to combine the ideas of social distancing with the breakup within the song. It was filmed in Belgium as the lockdown eased, but shows the attachment to objects in the lyrics, and the splitting of a whole into separate parts, and has two beautiful performances at its heart.”
The Howl & The Hum have been tipped by Wonderland, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Music Week and more, as well as at radio by Huw Stephens, Annie Mac, Tom Robinson and John Kennedy.
Hailing form York, The Howl & The Hum have been on the rise over the last two years. The band have accumulated over 10 million streams on Spotify alone, and this album is set to crystallise their early potential.
