Vooruitlopend op hun Europese tournee later deze maand kondigt RVG uit Melbourne twee nummers ‘Don’t Take It Badly / Pet Sematary’ aan. RVG’s eerste nieuwe muziek sinds hun Soundmerch Australian Music Prize-winnende album uit 2023, Brain Worms, dat eerder deze maand ook het AIR Awards Independent Album of the Year won.
Opgenomen in de Soundpark Studios met Andrew “Idge” Hehir en gemixt door James Trevascus (die hun bekroonde album Brain Worms produceerde) is ‘Don’t Take It Badly’ een frontale botsing waarbij RVG op zijn scherpst is en hun wave zelfs een beetje in een country-jasje hijst. Van het nummer legt frontvrouw Romy Vager uit: “Don’t Take It Badly is a song about how change isn’t always a romantic thing and can sometimes feel pretty ugly. It’s a winter song that I wrote in the summer.”
‘Don’t Take It Badly’ wordt vergezeld door een euforische, galmende cover van ‘Pet Sematary’ van de Ramones. “We all love the Ramones” zegt Romy “And started playing this in rehearsal and it instantly clicked. The lyrics are such an underrated part of Ramones’ songs, there’s a lot of imagery in this song that I love dearly.”
RVG speelt op 7 september op Misty Fields en een dag later in Rotown, Rotterdam.
