Vanavond om 19:00 uur Sniester Radio #4

Eén weekend per jaar mogen de muziekprogrammeurs van Paard en de Grote Markt los. Ze boeken dan acts die te wild, te gevoelig, te blij, te duister of gewoon te batshit crazy zijn voor normale evenementen.

Dat weekend heet Sniester. Sniester is het Haagse stadsfestival voor originaliteit, energie en durf. Expliciete hiphop, akoestisch moois, abstracte beats, dragqueen shows tot tropische sferen, alles komt langs in een parade van 65 internationale topacts. Zondag 26 mei is weer het territorium van Sniester Junior: de gratis festivaldag voor kinderen waarop ze zoveel mogelijk dingen doen die normaal niet mogen.

Sniester is dit jaar op 24 25 & 26 mei in 11 venues in het Popdistrict, het muzikale hart van Den Haag: Paard, Paardcafé, Bleyenberg, Het Magazijn, September, de Zwarte Ruiter, Rootz, Humanity House, de Gekke Geit, Grey Space Basement en (nieuw!) het vrijgevochten alter ego van café Zèta: de Slèta.

De ticketverkoop is gestart: een weekendpoes-partout heb je voor € 27,50, dagtickets voor € 17,50.

Clipprimeur: Ron Gallo – Love Supreme (Work Together)

Vandaag brengt Ron Gallo een kleurrijke video bij het nummer Love Supreme (Work Together) uit. Momenteel is de Amerikaan op tour door Europa, waarvoor hij onlangs al zijn eerste stop in Nederland maakte met een show in EKKO, Utrecht. Volgende maand keert Gallo terug naar Nederland voor Best Kept Secret (1 juni) in Hilvarenbeek.

Ron Gallo over de video: “This video is a total mindfuck and i really love the colors. the level of genius and work it took director Joshua Shoemaker and his partner Albert to conceptualize and build the world it takes place in from zero and then find a way to shoot it all in one shot is beyond me. I was just happy to be a part of it. Shoemaker told me he was in a long bout of depression and making this video pulled him out of it and that’s really what the song is all about: making people happy and helping each other out as humans”.

Met Love Supreme (Work Together) eert Ron Gallo tevens jazzsaxofonist John Coltrane. Het nummer is afkomstig van zijn tweede album Stardust Birthday Party dat eind vorig jaar uitkwam. Op voorganger Heavy Meta was Gallo zijn meest gefrustreerde- en gedesillusioneerde zelf. Dat kwam door de politieke situatie en de sociale chaos in de Verenigde Staten, maar ook omdat Gallo net had gebroken met zijn partner die verslaafd was en door een moeilijke tijd heen ging. Deze gebeurtenissen zette Ron Gallo aan het denken en zorgde voor een innerlijke zoektocht. Op Stardust Birthday Party neemt hij je mee op reis langs de verschillende fases van die periode.

Over Ron Gallo: Ron Gallo is afkomstig uit Philadelphia (US). In 2014 begint hij zijn solocarrière. In 2017 bracht hij het goed ontvangen album Heavy Meta uit waarna hij te zien was op onder meer Coachella, Bonnaroo en Pukkelpop. In 2018 verscheen zijn laatste album Stardust Birthday Party.

Om 19:00 uur Mañana Mañana Radio #1

Mañana Mañana festival is een feest in de betoverend mooie natuur en iedereen die de magie aandurft is van harte welkom. Van 13 tot en met 16 juni vindt het festival plaats bij het wonderschone Kasteel Vorden en Landgoed Vorden. Hier draait het om relaxen maar vooral ook feesten. Voor Mañana Mañana geldt dan ook: Fiësta like there’s no Mañana Mañana! Het definitieve blokkenschema is bekend.

25 YEARS OF LONDON CALLING

On July 25 in 1992 the first edition of London Calling took place. Acts like Tame Impala, The Libertines, Blur, Florence + The Machine, Franz Ferdinand, Mac DeMarco, Slowdive, Placebo, The Kooks, Kaiser Chiefs, White Lies en Two Door Cinema Club all played early in their careers.Now, 25 years later, we are celebrating this anniversary with a stellar line-up. Instead of looking back at this rich history, we tend to have acts on the bill that just as well become as big as these bands. Come join us at May 24 and May 25 in Paradiso. Untill then, have a look at all the previous editions of the festival.

London Calling Festival

The next editon of London Calling will take place on 24 and 25 May in Paradiso.

In 1992 London Calling pop festival started out as a showcase festival for the biggest music talents from Great Britain. Nowadays London Calling has new, young and exciting bands from all over the world on the bill, but still manages to be a good stepping stone towards the bigger clubs and festivals.

Vampire Weekend – This Life

This Life is Vampire Weekend ten voeten uit en op zijn best! De band pikte in 2008 met debuutsinge A-Punk de draad op die Paul Simon had gesponnen met zijn Graceland album en werd er wereldberoemd mee.

Vampire Weekend wegzetten als simpele Simon adepten is de band veel te kort doen, maar als ze de Soweto beat weer oppakken, zoals op This Life gaat de zon meteen schijnen.

This Life is het enige  nummer, dat naadloos aansluit bij de eerste en nog steeds grootste hit van de band, de vijf andere nieuwe songs die nu online staan vliegen alle kanten op, waar natuurlijk niks mis mee is.

Het nieuwe album van Vampire Weekend, het eerste zonder Rostam heet Father Of The Bride en komt op 3 mei uit, volgende week dus al. Fun fact, de vader van de bruid van bandbaas Ezra Koenig is de dochter van Quincy Jones.

Underworld kondigt nieuw album en live show aan

NIEUW ALBUM ‘DRIFT SONGS’ VERSCHIJNT OP 25 OKTOBER
ZATERDAG 23 NOVEMBER 2019 IN ZIGGO DOME, AMSTERDAM
Het iconische Britste danceduo Underworld kondigt vandaag het nieuwe album DRIFT SONGS aan. Op zaterdag 23 november komt het duo voor een bijzondere live show naar de Amsterdamse Ziggo Dome. Het concert staat in het teken van van het nieuwe album DRIFT SONGS en vormt het slotstuk van hun jaar durende DRIFT project. DRIFT SONGS verschijnt 25 oktober, beluister de single Soniamode hier.

Met de release van de single Soniamode en de aankondigingen van het nieuwe album DRIFT SONGS en hun grootste headlinershows ooit, stevenen elektronische muziekpioniers Rick Smith en Karl Hyde af op een grootse finale van hun 52 weken durende DRIFT-serie, die in 2018 van start ging.

DRIFT SONGS zal uitgebracht worden als CD, dubbel vinyl en een unieke allesomvattende box-set. Het is de eerste nieuwe plaat van Underworld sinds Barbara, Barbara we face a shining future, uit 2016. In 2018 was er ook nog het unieke project Teatime Dub Encounters met Iggy Pop.

De kaartverkoop voor het concert start vrijdag 24 mei om 11:00 via Ticketmaster.

Zanger Wild Beasts last-minute toegevoegd aan line-up London Calling

Komend weekend is het zover. Twee tjokvolle avonden in Paradiso met talentvolle bands van over de hele wereld. Op de valreep zijn er nog een aantal wijzigingen in het programma. Zo hebben Cuco en Hotel Lux helaas hun optreden moeten afzeggen. Daarvoor in de plaats komt ex-Wild Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe zijn debuutalbum presenteren. Tijdens de nachten kun je bovendien dansen met de dj-teams van Kiss All Hipsters en Black Currant Mag.
Hayden Thorpe kun je kennen als de zanger van Wild Beasts, waarmee hij twee keer eerder op London Calling speelde. Solo pakt Hayden het wat meer ingetogen aan. Zichzelf begeleidend op piano zingt Thorpe met zijn prachtige falsetto nummers die je direct bij de strot grijpen. Laat je rustig de vrijdagavond invoeren met muziek van zijn debuutalbum ‘Diviner’, dat op dezelfde dag uitkomt. Dat album kreeg overigens al een 10 (!) op The Line Of Best Fit.

De bands spelen tot laat in de kleine zaal, maar ‘s nachts gaat het op de dansvloer van de grote zaal verder met op vrijdag Kiss All Hipsters en op zaterdag het dj-team van Black Currant Mag. Had je tenslotte al gezien dat je op zaterdagmiddag naar Close Talker in Paradiso Noord kunt?

Pinguin Radio en Popmagazine Heaven delen twee belangrijke eigenschappen: een passie voor goede muziek en een volstrekt onafhankelijke opstelling. Dat moest natuurlijk tot een samenwerking leiden

Heaven verzorgt iedere dinsdagavond van 22:00 tot 23:00 een uur lang de muziek op Pinguin Radio. Net als Pinguin heeft Heaven oor voor – bijna – alle popmuziek. In het uurtje radio hoor je muziek uit verschillende genres: (classic)rock, roots, folk, soul, world, jazz en blues.
