Pinguin Radio presenteert om 22:00 uur Heaven Radio #145

Popmagazine HeavenPinguin Radio en Popmagazine Heaven delen twee belangrijke eigenschappen: een passie voor goede muziek en een volstrekt onafhankelijke opstelling. Dat moest natuurlijk tot een samenwerking leiden.

Heaven verzorgt iedere dinsdagavond van 22:00 tot 23:00 een uur lang de muziek op Pinguin Radio. Net als Pinguin heeft Heaven oor voor – bijna – alle popmuziek. In het uurtje radio hoor je muziek uit verschillende genres: (classic)rock, roots, folk, soul, world, jazz en blues.

Heaven #6, 2018 – Met twee belangrijke rootsfestivals in aantocht, Ramblin’ Roots op zaterdag 20 oktober in TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht en TakeRoot op zaterdag 3 november in De Oosterpoort, Groningen, bevat het nieuwe nummer van Heaven een flinke roots en americana.

Good old John Hiatt siert het omslag. De sympathieke Amerikaan – an all time favorite– gaat al een aantal generaties mee en zijn jongste album, The Eclipse Sessions, laat hem horen op de toppen van zijn kunnen.

 

American Aquarium, Israel Nash, Dawes, Rusty Young (Poco) en Judy Blank maken de rootsafdeling compleet.

Maar Heaven is Heaven niet als er niet veel meer genres aan bod komen: neem Amber Arcades, het droompopvehikel van de Utrechtse Annelotte de Graaf, de enigmatische Anna Calvi en de al even ondoorgrondelijke Villagers.

Claw Boys Claw naar Gigant en De Helling

Claw Boys Claw is onbetwist een van de allerbeste bands van Nederland! De legendarische groep werd in 1983 opgericht en bracht sindsdien twaalf albums uit, waarvan twee sinds de mannen in 2007 weer bij elkaar kwamen.

Frontman Peter te Bos – onze eigen Iggy Pop – is nog steeds de rebel uit de beginjaren. Samen met gitarist John Cameron vormt hij al ruim dertig jaar de kern van de band.

​In 2008 bracht Claw Boys Claw hun veelgeprezen album ‘Pajama Day’ uit, gevolgd door ‘Hammer’ in 2013. Goed nieuws, begin dit jaar is er weer een prachtig nieuw album uitgekomen: The Horse Is Not Me Part 1!

LUWTEN aankomende week o.a. naar TivoliVredenburg en Bitterzoet

LUWTEN keert terug naar de Nederlandse poppodia. De groep rondom liedschrijver Tessa Douwstra doet in december een kleine clubtour door Nederland. 

LUWTEN veroverde afgelopen zomer de podia van o.a. Down The Rabbit Hole en Lowlands met fijnzinnige en tedere shows, die opvallen door de uitgelaten en magische sfeer in het publiek. Juist het subtiele en intieme LUWTEN zorgde bij veel festivalgangers voor hét uitzinnige moment van deze festivalzomer.

De eigenzinnige folkliedjes met gevoel voor klank en ruimte voor elektronica van het debuutalbum veranderen op de bühne in dansbare popsongs. Tijdens de shows komen echter ook nieuwe, onuitgebrachte songs voorbij. Kenmerkend voor LUWTEN is hierin de detailverliefdheid die alle nummers kenmerkt. Een uit de verte opdoemend ruisje, een vocoder, een catchy refrein, een uitgesponnen piano-intro en dat alles rondom Douwstra’s kenmerkende stem.

Symfonische rockband Within Temptation op 20 december naar 013

De symfonische rockband Within Temptation is één van de meest succesvolle Nederlandse bands in het buitenland. Na een aantal vroege successen bracht de band in 2004 professionele videoclips uit voor nummers als ‘Stand My Ground’, ‘Memories’ en ‘Angels’. Hierop volgde een explosie van Within Temptation naar de internationale mainstream. In 2018 gaat de band op een grootse Europese tour.

Al ruim twee decennia lang is de band rondom frontvrouw Sharon den Adel met afstand voorloper in het genre. ‘Resist’ markeert dit rijke verleden en neemt fans via tien anthematische tracks vol donkere hoeken en grandioze melodieën mee naar een nieuwe en futurische metalstijl.

Zangeres Sharon den Adel zegt: “Resist is a true milestone for us. If it wasn’t for Resist, Within Temptation wouldn’t be here anymore. With this record, we’ve taken inspiration from modern music and gave it a face – a very dark one. Sometimes it feels that today’s pop music lacks a rebellious edge. Our main goal was to collect pieces from sounds we did like and roughen it up as much as we could, resulting in a surprisingly new musical world that is heavier, dirtier and more futuristic than we’ve ever created before. Resist is our take on metal in a new way: to give modern music its rebellious edge.”

VOLG DE LIVESTREAM: Imagine Festival

Op woensdag 21 november 2018 maakte de organisatie van Imagine Netherlands bekend dat acht acts zijn geselecteerd voor de landelijke finale van het internationale muziekfestival. De acht acts zijn: Royal Thieves, Zeno, Left In Suspense, Beyond The Moon, Icey Youth, Queen’s Pleasure, BRICKED OUT en Norah Jane. Zij werden geselecteerd door POPnl, een samenwerkingsverband tussen de twaalf provinciale popkoepels en de steden Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht en Den Haag. De finale van Imagine Netherlands vindt zondagavond 16 december 2018 plaats in de Muziekgieterij, Maastricht.

De acht acts vertegenwoordigen respectievelijk de provincies Limburg, Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland, Noord-Holland, Utrecht en Flevoland. Tijdens het evenement, waarvan wereldwijd acht andere nationale finales plaatsvinden, wordt één act geselecteerd die als finalist van Imagine Netherlands 2018 doorgaat naar de internationale finale. De rondreizende internationale finale vindt in 2019 ook plaats in Maastricht en verhuist in 2020 naar Barcelona, Spanje. De rockband tRuckks uit Frankrijk won op 22 september Imagine International Final 2018. Aan de internationale finale namen destijds acts uit Brazilië, Noorwegen, Kroatië, Zweden, Zimbabwe, Nederland, Polen en Frankrijk deel.

 

 

 

#332 Wolf Alice

Succes heeft vele vaders, luidt het gezegde, maar als het gaat om Wolf Alice menen wij toch wel enige claim op het ouderschap te mogen leggen. We hadden de Britse band namelijk al best vroeg in in het vizier.

Alice was nog een welpje toen onze hit hunters de band spotten. Dat was in 2013 toen ze voor het eerst naar buiten traden met de demo van Bros, een nummer dat twee jaar later in een remake op hun debuutalbum zou verschijnen en nu hun populairste nummer is.

We hebben Wolf Alice nooit meer los gelaten. Nu vijf jaar, twee albums en drie IJsbrekers later is Wolf Alice zo groot gegroeid dat Paradiso te klein voor ze is. Dus waren Ellie, Joel, Joff en Theo afgelopen dinsdag te zien in TivoliVredenburg waar zich zo’n 2000 mensen verzamelden om de band in het wild te zien.

Een van hen was onze Bazz, die zijn stoute schoenen aantrok en backstage ging om de bandleden te vertellen dat ze komende week collectief Stationschef zijn. Hij kwam terug met een lijst met favoriete songs van het kwartet uit Noord Londen en een leuk interview, dat je kunt horen in de nieuwe aflevering van Bazz op de Buzz.

Bazz op de Buzz is elke zaterdag te horen om 19:00 uur en wordt herhaald elke donderdag om 22:00 uur.

Pinguin Radiogids vrijdagavond 14 december 2018

Zin in de nieuwste vinyl- en cd-releasetips? Misschien om het aankomende weekend zelfs wel aan te schaffen in je dichtstbijzijnde muziekwinkel? De kenners van de Amsterdamse platenzaak Concerto, Anton Speijers en Ruben Eg, presenteren wekelijks op vrijdag tussen 19:00 en 20:00 uur de meest verse releases uit binnen- en buitenland. Vervolgens om 20:00 uur de Vinyl 33, gepresenteerd door Wilbert Stuifbergen. En om 21:00 Triple A met diskjockey Arthur Albracht waarin hij o.a. de IJsbreker bekend maakt. In de stemming komen voor de Snob 2000 kan in Snob 2000 Radio om 22:00 uur met ondergewaardeerde liedjes gepresenteerd door DJ Tricky Dicky. Pinguin Radio presenteert de Vinyl33 – Week 50 / 2018

Record Store Day Nederland, met de onafhankelijke platenzaak als middelpunt, breidt haar activiteiten met de Vinyl33, verder uit.

Op Pinguin Radio draaien we elke week zo veel mogelijk nieuwe releases, de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer, de klimmer van de week en uiteraard veel tracks uit de top 10.

Vinyl 33 is een wekelijkse chart voor de werkelijke vinylverkopen in Nederland. De lijst wordt samengesteld door onderzoeksbureau Gfk Nederland, tevens uitgever van de Dutch Charts. De Gfk-cijfers geven een representatief beeld van alle albums die op vinyl verkocht worden in heel Nederland.

Esther Vollebregt van Record Store Day Nederland: “We zijn begonnen om als Stichting Record Store Day meer activiteiten op te zetten dan alleen die ene speciale zaterdag in april. We bereiken voorafgaand aan en op die dag duizenden muziekliefhebbers, die graag een platenzaak bezoeken. Zonde om daar niet iets meer mee te doen.”
