Ook dit jaar hebben we weer je hulp ingeroepen bij het samenstellen van de Top van de IJsberg, de 150 beste platen uit de popgeschiedenis, volgens de luisteraars van Pinguin Radio.

Het eindresultaat, de 2020 editie van de Top van de IJsberg zenden we uit op Tweede Paasdag, maandag 13 april van 9 uur ‘s ochtends tot ‘s avonds, ongeveer 22:00 uur.

Alex The Astronaut – I Think You’re Great

Alex The Astronaut klinkt als de titel van een kinderboek, maar is de artiestennaam van de 25 jarige Alexandra Lynn uit Sydney. Australië dus. Alexandra had het voor het kiezen. Ze is slim, sportief en muzikaal. Ze kon astronaut worden, voetballer of de muziek in gaan.

Haar balvaardigheid leverde haar zelfs een studiebeurs op aan een gerenommeerde Amerikaanse universiteit. Daar heeft ze wis en natuurkunde gestudeerd. Maar de lokroep van de muziek bleek toch te sterk. Iets van haar wetenschappelijke achtergrond sijpelt nog door in de naam van haar label. Dat heeft ze Minkowski Records gedoopt, naar de man die een diagram bedacht waarin de relatie tussen ruimte en tijd zichtbaar is. 

Van zo’n bolleboos als Alex zou je misschien ook ingewikkelde of intellectuele muziek verwachten, maar dat valt reuze mee. De Astronaut schrijft songs met een positieve lading. Een van haar songs werd opgepikt als strijdlied door de Australische pro homohuwelijk beweging. Met nieuwe single I Think Your Great steekt ze een hart onder de riem van iedereen die wel eens moeite heeft het leven bij te benen.

De stijl waarin Alex haar hartelijke boodschappen giet, heeft wel iets weg van de slackerrock van landgenote Courtney Barnett. Na Australië aan haar voeten te hebben gekregen richt Alex The Astronaut nu haar pijlen op Europa en de V.S. I Think You’re Great  is een schot in de roos.

Stem op de Top van de IJsberg – Editie 2020

Ook dit jaar roepen we weer je hulp in bij het samenstellen van de Top van de IJsberg, de 150 beste songs uit de popgeschiedenis, volgens de luisteraars van Pinguin Radio.

Als geheugensteun vind je hier de Top van de IJsberg van vorig jaar, maar andere nummers voorstellen mag natuurlijk ook. Vul hieronder je top 10 (minimaal 5) in, dan gaan wij turven en zetten de nummers in de volgorde van de meeste stemmen.

Vanavond om 18:00 uur Please Don’t Stop The Music Radio #6

Nu COVID-19 er zeker tot 1 juni voor zorgt dat alle concerten en festivals voor de komende tijd worden afgezegd of verplaatst, worden artiesten meer en meer geconfronteerd met de negatieve financiële gevolgen die dit met zich meebrengt. Met andere woorden: Er worden grote verliezen geleden en de live-industrie is in gevaar. 

Artiesten steken veel tijd, moeite en geld in het maken van nieuwe muziek, en ze moeten vaak grote investeringen doen voordat ze de bandbus of het vliegtuig instappen. Die kosten hoop je als artiest terug te verdienen met het geven van optredens en de verkoop van merchandise. Maar met de onzekere vooruitzichten komen artiesten meer en meer in zwaar weer. En dat niet alleen, ook de toeleverende industrie heeft het zwaar.

En hoe langer het duurt hoe moeilijker het wordt om je hoofd boven water te houden. Want de inkomsten uit royalties (bijv. streaming) en auteursrechten komen met (grote) vertraging. Om daar verandering in te brengen is de website www.pleasedontstopthemusic.nl opgericht. Een website waar je je favoriete Nederlandse artiesten kunt steunen door het kopen en luisteren van Muziek & Merchandise via hun webshop. Zo kan er voor worden gezorgd dat onze artiesten straks kunnen blijven optreden. Please Don’t Stop The Music:

“Maar we willen er ook een plek van maken, waar je uiteindelijk het hele Nederlands muzieklandschap kan ontdekken. Van groot tot klein, elk genre en van de Waddeneilanden tot Limburg. En wat nou het allermooiste zou zijn, is als je ook iemand anders blij kan maken met muziek. Denk aan de mensen in de vitale beroepen. Die verdienen meer dan applaus alleen, die verdienen muziek waarbij ze zelf ook kunnen klappen.
