Vanavond om 21:00 uur Musicmaker Radio #3

Donderdag van 9 tot 10 ’s avonds hoor je op Musicmaker Radio muziek die bij de nieuwste editie van Musicmaker hoort, het magazine voor de muzikant.

In de maart-april editie van Musicmaker kom je alles tegen wat je als muzikant wilt weten over muziek maken en opnemen, de gear die je daarbij nodig hebt en over hoe je je muziek het beste in de markt zet.

Je vindt er een groot artikel over de muziek en panels van Eurosonic Noorderslag, inclusief interviews met Son Mieux, Sylvie Kreusch, Shishani en 4B2M. In deze editie ook een interview met Ruben Hein over zijn nieuwe cd die 25 februari uitkomt. Musicmaker spreekt ook twee kanjers op het internationale front: producer Frank Dukes en hitmaker Rajan Muse. En er zijn producttests van een Gretsch gitaar, een Sennheiser hoofdtelefoon, een Orange gitaarversterker, de elektronische drumset van Fame, een Austrian Audio microfoon en Universal Audio Volt desktop audio-interfaces. Pinguin Radio presenteert om 22:00 uur Heaven Radio #309

Pinguin Radio en Popmagazine Heaven delen twee belangrijke eigenschappen: een passie voor goede muziek en een volstrekt onafhankelijke opstelling. Dat moest natuurlijk tot een samenwerking leiden.

Heaven verzorgt iedere dinsdagavond van 22:00 tot 23:00 een uur lang de muziek op Pinguin Radio. Net als Pinguin heeft Heaven oor voor – bijna – alle popmuziek. In het uurtje radio hoor je muziek uit verschillende genres: (classic)rock, roots, folk, soul, world, jazz en blues.

Liefhebbers van Heaven Radio luisteren natuurlijk ook naar ons zachtere zusje Pinguin Pluche.

Nieuwe Noorse melodieuze (post)metalcoreband Fixation releaset 1e single Stay Awake van aankomend debuutalbum

Enkel en alleen op basis van de EP ‘Global Suicide’ die in het najaar van 2020 verscheen, stonden platenlabels en boekingskantoren in de rij om de melodieuze (post) metalcore band Fixation uit Noorwegen in te lijven. De vier muzikanten hielden echter het hoofd Scandinavisch koel en tekenden bij het internationaal gevierde Noorse platenlabel Indie Recordings. Het debuutalbum van Fixation verschijnt in 2022, maar vandaag zet de band alvast de 1e single-video ‘Stay Awake’ online.

De tekst van ‘Stay Awake’ ontstond na de bestorming van het Congres in Amerika vorig jaar, waarna Fixation de behoefte voelde om zijn mening hierover te uiten. De song vraagt om op te komen tegen onwetendheid, haat en onrecht, en wil aandacht vragen voor dubbele standaarden die bijdragen aan een onveilige en verdeelde wereld. Frontman Jonas Hansen: “’Stay Awake’ speaks up against the hypocritical way some people view today’s society. A lot of people choose to be blind to situations they don’t want to face. While turning away from injustice, they focus instead on what’s most beneficial for themselves. It also brings up how a lot of people fight a revolution that they really don’t know what’s about.”

Gitarist Martin Selen voegt daar aan toe: “The song is dark and mysterious with tons of energy and rage, but at the same time it has a longing and melancholy character.“

Fixation combineert elektronische elementen vrijelijk met stadionrock en metal. Aanstekelijke riffs, dynamische melodieuze synthesizers, zware bas en drum ritmes vormen een achtbaan van melancholische agressie. Met serieuze teksten en een verfrissende kijk op maatschappijkritiek duidt de band de actualiteit. De band wijkt zowel visueel als muzikaal (als qua lyrics) af van hetgeen gangbaar is in het metalcore genre. Voor frontman Jonas Hansen is Fixation de ideale uitlaatklep voor zijn psychische demonen waartegen hij al een tijd (openlijk) strijdt, waaronder claustrofobie.
