The Fades – Looking for Keanu

Have you ever fantasised about befriending someone famous just so you can forget your sad, humdrum life?

The new single from the Fades drops on May 17th 2024 via Bark Like a Dog Records and is a modern, slightly tongue in cheek lament detailing lead singer and guitarist Dave Lightfoot’s recent troubles in life.

After a midlife breakup, Dave found himself slowly losing faith in life, questioning where and who he should turn to for solace and meaning.

Rumour had it that Keanu Reeves was filming around the corner from the Fades’ rehearsal studio and that was enough to set off Dave’s imagination….

Daydreaming of bumping into Keanu on the street, going for a pint and getting him in the studio to jam with the band, leading to a lifelong friendship.

Sometimes you just need a friend and Dave could really do with one…..

Here’s hoping his dreams come true

Looking for Keanu is a 90’s inspired slice of slacker indie rock with the Fades at their most reflective and self-effacing.

GROEIENDE IRRITATIE!

Na de afgrijselijke afloop van de verkiezingen in November, begint het er op te lijken dat de extreemrechtse, demagogische en vooral populistische partijen minder goed kunnen samenwerken, leiden en daarmee regeren dan -het door hen zo geliefde- volk zich had voorgesteld. Jammer joh, het enige goede wat er tot nu toe van gekomen is is deze vette track van Echte Punk. Veel luisterplezier, en vergeet niet tegen jullie oma’s te zeggen.

Tramhaus – Beech

Op Beech horen we een nieuwe Tramhaus, maar herkennen we ook de makers van Make It Happen en I Don’t Sweat.

Nieuw is dat frontman Lukas Janssen de longen uit zijn lijf zingt. Met voortschrijdend inzicht horen we nu dat het ook in oudere songs al borrelde, maar daar bleef het bij dreigen. Op Beech gooit Lukas alle remmen los en dat bevalt uitstekend. Vertrouwd is Janssen’s manier van praatzingen tussen de erupties door. Beech is dus geen zondagochtendnummertje, maar wel een uitstekende aankeiler van het debuutalbum van de Rotterdammers, waar we overigens nog wel even op moeten wachten. The First Exit verschijnt pas op 20 september.

Foxlane – Disenchantment

Met Disenchantment bevestigt Foxlane wat we al een tijdje vermoeden. Dat we hier te maken hebben met een van de betere bands van ons taalgebied.

En wel hierom. Foxlane lijkt op geen enkele andere band van dit moment en sluit aan bij geen enkele trend. Neem alleen al de nieuwe single. Disenchantment is een dik vijf minuten durende suite voor zanger en gitaar, een dynamische en gelaagde rocksong met een mantra waar je een refrein zou verwachten. Is de muziek al gecompliceerd, over de tekst kan je uren discussiëren. Toch is het nummer toegankelijker dan je op basis van het voorgaande zou verwachten. Disenchantment is de verre voorloper van een debuutalbum van de band uit Nijmegen dat volgens de laatste plannen ergens in februari 2015 moet gaan uitkomen.

The Giant Low – New single out NOW!

The Giant Low (Nijmegen, NL – think Interpol & Editors) has released a 2 track single ‘We Fall’ on all streaming platforms and a limited 100 copies black vinyl single.

The vinyl comes with a thick album cover (300 g) with an original lino print, designed by graphic designer and comic strip artist Tjark Van Beers (Nijmegen).

The vinyl single has been available since Record Store Day (April 20 2024) and was  released with a show together with Queens Pleasure at Discords in Nijmegen.

Both songs from the single will also be available on all streaming platforms.
