Another Love, new single by Dexter Saint Jock

“After releasing some up-tempo songs, now it’s time for a ballad”, so Sander Janssen from the band Dexter Saint Jock states.

Our new song Another Love is about an impossible love. But sometimes the unreachable is the one thing we love the most. Drives you crazy sometimes. That’s why the song starts as a ballad, but ends in the rage and the helplessness these feelings bring along.

One piece of advice from the bandmembers:
“Play the song loud, especially the end. It will get under your skin and when the volume is up you will experience what the song means and how it is written”

Today, Alyson McNamara is sharing another new track from her upcoming third album, Let Me Sleep, out June 4, 2021 via Ghost Pepper Records. “After Hours” is “all about growth, but when I wrote it I didn’t know that,” says McNamara. “It’s about a time in my life when I was going to lots of after hours parties, meeting people that I wasn’t deeply connecting with, and ultimately, trying to find myself amidst all the flashing lights and darkness. I was navigating my way through my first heartbreak. To me, ‘After Hours’ now serves as a reminder of where I was at that time and where I am now.”

On the video for “After Hours”, McNamara says, “I think that the idea of making a caterpillar video might have come from my subconscious. I didn’t completely understand why it was important to me, but I was determined to see it through. As all of the scenes fell into place, I realized that it was a metaphor for my own metamorphosis. I sewed my costume by hand for this video, and that in itself was a huge learning/growing experience for me.”

Billbunker toont diepgang en veelzijdigheid op nieuwe EP

Utrechtse rockband groeit en verkent nieuwe paden.

In 2020 stond de muziekwereld zo goed als stil. Maar niet voor de Utrechtse rockband Billbunker! Tussen twee lockdowns door nam de band vijf nummers op die nu staan verzameld op de nieuwe EP “Sliding into Numbland”.
De nieuwe tracks laten Billbunker horen in volle, gevarieerde glorie.
De energieke opener “There’s A Fire” zet de toon met zijn memorabele baslijn en hemelbestormende gitaarsolo. Ballad “Barrow” bouwt langzaam op naar een onontkoombare climax. Ook het melodieuze en meeslepende “Hey Somebody” maakt indruk. Op “Fright Flight” doet de band een geslaagde poging het virtuele dak er af te blazen, om op het eerder op single verschenen “How Brave” weer wat gas terug te nemen. De waardige afsluiter van de EP is een emotioneel eerbetoon aan een overleden dierbare.

Met “Sliding into Numbland” zet Billbunker een belangrijke stap in zijn ontwikkeling en toont de band zowel zijn diepgang als veelzijdigheid.

LÖNA komt met break-up ‘Ballad’

Vandaag komt de Haarlemse sisteract LÖNA met een nieuwe, emotionele single. ‘I Should Break Up With You’ omvat de pijnlijke realisatie dat de wegen beter kunnen scheiden. Niet eerder bracht het synthpop duo zo’n rustige, mooie ballad uit.

De onafscheidelijke tweelingzussen van het donkere synthpop duo LÖNA komt in 2021 terug met nieuw materiaal. De zussen kiezen vaker voor teksten die opvallen en persoonlijke verhalen vertellen. Dat is met ‘I Should Break Up With You’ ook het geval. Het nummer is eerlijk en vol emotie gezongen over een relatie die beter verbroken kan worden. De zin “I know when I come to your front door […], I’ll be leaving with my things I left on your nightstand, I’ll take back the book I lent you and our future plans…”. schetst op een pijnlijke manier de situatie waarin het nieuws aan de ander wordt gebracht.

Het Scandinavisch klinkende LÖNA staat voor de donkere, koude klanken die het duo als een rode draad verweven heeft in elke release. Eerder bracht het duo een nummer uit met violen, deze keer brengen zij de violen drie keer zo sterk terug.

Eind april is LÖNA online live te zien op het FYREXR Festival vanuit de Neushoorn in Leeuwarden.

Angie Flare trouwt met zichzelf

Nieuwe single over zelfliefde

Zangeres en songwriter Angie Flare lanceert binnenkort haar nieuwe single ‘Marry Myself’, een ode aan de zelfliefde. Na de release van haar debuut EP ‘Footprints in the Sand’ in maart 2020, geïnspireerd door de stad Nashville, is het weer tijd voor nieuwe muziek. ‘Marry Myself’ is te streamen vanaf vrijdag 5 februari. De bijbehorende videoclip, die Angie zelf produceerde, is te zien vanaf 10 februari.

‘Marry Myself’ ontstond doordat Angie veel tijd alleen thuis doorbracht. Haar vriend was vaak ‘on the road’ als muzikant. Ze merkte dat ze het heel lastig vond om tijd met zichzelf door te brengen en ze moest echt leren om het zelf leuk te maken en niet bang te zijn voor de eenzaamheid. Angie besefte dat altijd op anderen wachten alleen maar leidt tot teleurstellingen. Je bent verantwoordelijk voor je eigen geluk.

Dat was voor Angie ook een groot houvast tijdens de corona lockdown. Als je niet meer kan vluchten in een drukke agenda en allerlei bezigheden, ben je op jezelf aangewezen. De enige oplossing is zorgen dat je het leuk hebt met jezelf. De eerste stap is een stukje zelfliefde, weten waar je behoefte aan hebt en daarnaar luisteren. ‘Marry Myself’ is uiteraard een boodschap met een knipoog, maar Angie wil haar luisteraars wel meegeven dat een beetje lief voor jezelf zijn heel veel kan brengen in het leven. Een positieve, krachtige boodschap in deze lastige tijden.

Na het uitbrengen van haar debuut EP ‘Footprints in the Sand’ in maart 2020, vlak voor de coronacrisis, heeft Angie zeker niet stilgezeten. De extra tijd heeft ze gebruikt om flink aan zichzelf en haar muzikale skills te werken, zoals het schrijven van nieuwe muziek.
‘Marry Myself’ is weer een echt country pop nummer, een mooie opvolger van populaire tracks als ‘Home’ van haar EP. Met invloeden van Nashville artiesten zoals Carrie Underwood.

De bijbehorende videoclip bedacht en produceerde Angie zelf. ‘Een superleuke ervaring, want ik besefte gaandeweg dat ik mijn eigen bruiloft aan het plannen was. Maar dan dus met mezelf. Ik ben bruidsjurken gaan passen en ik moest mijn eigen bruidsboeket en bruidstaart bestellen. Gelukkig werd ik geholpen door hele leuke, lokale partijen en is het echt een clip geworden die op een luchtige manier het verhaal vertelt.’

‘Marry Myself’ is nog maar het begin van weer een reeks nieuwe muziek die Angie aan het schrijven is en gaat uitbrengen. De ambitie is om toe te werken naar een tweede EP, wederom vol met moderne countrymuziek met een eigen twist. Angie’s ultieme droom? Een internationale tour met haar band en eigen muziek.

Amsterdam-based odd/pop composer – MONOKINO – will release a brand new single: “Bend Or Break” on 1 February 2021

“Bend Or Break” is a bubbling broth of influences and styles designed to break down barriers and push the limits.

Written in direct reaction to the endless stream of grim statistics, toxic information and barbed opinion that engulfed us as 2020 unfolded, “Bend Or Break” is a track that finds George van Wetering/Monokino unplugging himself from the media mainframe and urging a revolution of free and independent thinking.

As George says:

“The inspiration for the song came when I stopped reading the forwarded articles from my whatsapp contacts, messages about the number of covid deaths, the IQ of Trump, about how efficiently they respond to the pandemic in Southeast Asia and how stupid the Netherlands is… I longed for a time when we were talking about things with common sense and our common stance about that we do not need to explain, rationalize, or quote someone else, or know everything. When all the information comes to you and supposedly refers to experts, how do you still think independently?”

Based on a series of online conversations Monokino had last year, “Bend Or Break” tells the story of someone who becomes consumed by the never-ending torrent of news and misinformation, and ultimately has their outlook on life warped in the process.

“Bend or Break is about a friend who says all year round how bad things are in the world and with humanity and with himself but at the end of the year says that 2020 has never been such a good year for him personally.” says George. When faced with conflicting opinions and clashes of personality, sometimes “it’s easier to oppose it and to let go of some friendships” he adds.

Underpinned by George’s distinctive Thom Yorke-esque falsetto, “Bend Or Break” is a record that defies convention at every turn. Amorphous and mercurial, its snaking rhythms wind around low-slung latino hooks that refuse to be pinned-down. Atonal chords stretch into wiry solos that burn bright, then disconnect.

Esoteric of sound and erudite of concept, “Bend Or Break” is an exploration of fake news and hard truths. It’s a record that dares defy the norm to challenge, stimulate and electrify in equal measures.

Monokino is the alias for Dutch composer George van Wetering. Hailed as “a free spirit that finds harmony with disparate elements and a pattern without a formula” Monokino’s uniquely odd-ball pop has already struck a chord with audiences across the globe. Seeing his music released by labels including Konkurrent (NL), Zip Records (USA/NL) and major Chinese record company Modern Sky, albums such as ‘Human Error’ and ‘Fake Virtue’ launched Monokino into five consecutive tours of China and North America; visiting landmark festivals from China’s Strawberry Festival to the US’s South by Southwest along the way.

Nathan’s Brother’s Spot On; poppy, persoonlijk en muzikaal

Lang verwacht toch gekomen: Nathan’s Brother imponeert met breed en persoonlijk solo-debuut.

Na jaren lang zijn talenten als bassist en gitarist in dienst gesteld te hebben van derden heeft de Haarlemse artiest Nathan’s Brother nu gehoor gegeven aan een lang gekoesterde ambitie, hij heeft een solo-album gemaakt, solo als in alleen, in zijn uppie. Hij zingt uiteraard en schreef alle songs op ‘Spot On’, maar speelt ook alle instrumenten. Daarnaast was hij zijn eigen producer en technicus. Deze huisvlijt heeft geresulteerd in een breed, avontuurlijk maar tegelijk persoonlijk album. Elke track heeft wel iets bijzonders, een accordeon, een exotische Saz of latin percussie. Hoewel de teksten autobiografisch zijn verstaat Nathan’ Brother de kunst zijn woorden zo te kiezen dat menig luisteraar zich er in kan herkennen. Als ‘Spot On’ één ding duidelijk maakt is dat Nathan’s Brother veel eerder solo had moeten gaan. Maar beter laat dan…

VAN ELST new single Daydreamer

After supporting Bauhaus and a year of lockdown, VAN ELST starts off the new year with single ‘Daydreamer’

Releasing his new single ‘Daydreamer’ VAN ELST takes us into the imaginative dreamy hours accompanied by the beautiful ethereal vocals of the American singer songwriter Cosette Gobat.

Last seen on stage opening for Bauhaus with his previous band Desert Mountain Tribe, Dream Pop artist VAN ELST has learned a thing or two from the gothic legends about writing emotional atmospheric songs. The track ‘Daydreamer’ absorbs the listener into the already authentic landscape of the artist, continuing his musical blend of melancholic synth lines, bass heavy electronics, atmospheric dream pop melodies with hints of psychedelia.

Dutch Producer, songwriter and drummer VAN ELST has already carved out a corner of the music-sphere all of his own, with journalists comparing his unsettling brand of electronica to bands as diverse as Joy Division and Crystal Castles.

VAN ELST wrote ‘Daydreamer’ reflecting on a moving year in which he started his project’s journey. Based on vocal melodies inspired by ideas that came to him in a daydream he had while gazing out of the window having existential visualisations of the past the present and the future.

Sampling his vocals turning them into separate melodies and chords he creates an ambience that carries us into a haunting world of both hope and insecurity. After finishing the writing and production proces VAN ELST felt there was something missing to the audio landscape he’d created and therefore contacted American “DIY Experimentalist” and “Dream Pop queen” Cosette Gobat (who previously worked with artists such as The Wombats, Caroline Rose, Ali Barter) to add a beautiful vocal and guitar part to the song which brought extra depth to the sonic dimension.

On a journey to shine a light on the unspoken sides of mental health, VAN ELST hopes his music will create more awareness and understanding of the struggles experienced by many: “Listening to songs that relate to the situation I’m in helps me to process my feelings. With ‘Daydreamer’ I hope to provide a feeling of hope and a similar healing experience for the listener”.

Eddie Solomon’s Single “Down There” is uit!

De eerste single van Eddie Solomon is uit! In deze donkere wintermaanden brengt deze Apeldoornse solo-artiest twee spiksplinternieuwe duistere en maatschappijkritische nummers uit.

Na een proces van jaren muziek maken en schrijven is dit de geboorte van zijn eerste muzikale product. Teruggrijpend naar een verleden dat niet altijd even rooskleurig is geweest. Eddie heeft in de aanloop van het schrijven verscheidene van zijn oude muzikale ideeën nieuw leven ingeblazen en nam deze als basis voor zijn debuut als solo-artiest.

Zo’n eerste single is op zich een heel fragiel iets, maar Eddie Solomon houdt zijn emoties niet in, met een beslagen gitaar, een krachtige oprechte stem en een huilende viool zet hij zich stevig neer in een akoestische genre van melancholische pop met een grimmig randje.

Het artwork van deze single vormt een doeltreffende afspiegeling van de duisternis en de schaduwzijde die aan alles kleeft (fotograaf Jan Bouwkamp): een gepijnigd gezicht voor de helft in duisternis gehuld.
