Loving room concerts in Amsterdam – tickets win je hier

Hello Indie artists and listeners!

At Loving room concerts, we bring to you cosy concerts from beautiful spaces in Amsterdam, London, Berlin and Munich. After a calm August, we’ve been ramping up for September! We already had three events on the 12th,  13th  and 15th   that were a lot of fun, but that’s only the start. We have THREE more events coming up!

And, a festival…

So…we would already like to share some info about the upcoming Festival at Toekomstmuziek Amsterdam.

We’re going a bit larger with this one on Oct. 6th, with over 200 listeners joining us for performances with artists like Lorrèn, Lotte Walda, Ato Perez, Samuel Andryk, Noah Milanovi , LNDE and Second Hand Sunset. The location will be the beautiful Toekomstmuziek easily accessible by a bus from Amterdam Central station. Of course, we’re going to keep the real Loving Room warm and cozy vibes alive. Now, let’s talk more about September:

On the 21st we were back to Berlin after not having been there for far too long. We held a Singer Songwriter festival there too, with no less than 5(!) great upcoming artists performing for our audience!

On the 24th we’re back in hometown Amsterdam for one of our regular cozy events at OBA Postjesweg. Be ready for live deep songs by upcoming artists honing their skills to create a living room vibe with fellow music lovers.

On the 29th we have a our monthly afternoon concert at the Boshalte venue, where we’re hoping to get some late summer / early autumn vibes with decent temperatures while the trees are getting their beautiful orange-red autumn shade.

Gavin McGee – What Was Will Be Again

“Caught in someone else’s kind of love,” Gavin McGee’s debut studio project, explores the uncomfortable side of desire distracted by vulnerable moments of optimism and self-actualization in his incisive five-song EP. Brimming with folk-inspired earworm melodies and playful, familiar-feeling vocals, “What Was Will Be Again” is a piercing collection of raw indie-rock ballads guided by heart-melting lyrics that pull you from one end to the other.

The 24-year-old singer/songwriter and producer grew up in Norwalk, CT before moving to Pittsburgh, PA, and finding the indie/folk/emo underground scene where he met bandmates Jacob Zang and Jacob Stretch (the Jakes). After releasing his home recordings in 2022, McGee opened for Dualtone Records’ indie-rock hit band flipturn (2022) and most recently Boston-based funk pop band Couch (2024). Today, he laughingly refers to himself as a “Zach Bryan who joined the Backseat Lovers”. Between rotting basements and college campuses – McGee grew a small following of ardent fans and dedicated a year to recording his debut studio project at the Red Caiman Studios in Pittsburgh, PA.

Instead of blending Modern American Folk with early 2010’s Alt-Rock, McGee smashed them together using nostalgic storytelling to glue the colliding worlds in the opening track “Not A Friend”. When asked about his approach, he says, “I’m obsessed with symmetry in storytelling. I wanted to start the record by paying homage to some of the classic indie tropes I grew up with before leaning into this more contemporary, almost country-leaning palette I’ve been fascinated by lately”.

The lead single “Loan” explores expectation and exploitation. In a life where growing up seems inevitable, the light-hearted indie ambiance contrasts with the somber lyricism. The story is about a girl who wants to escape the constant demand for her body, her attention, and her love.

Followed by a pause, a moment somewhere between two and twenty years ago when you were too scared to approach the (maybe) love of your life at that party in what’s-his-names basement. “I Can’t Know” is a retrospective look at the conversation you wish you had. The internal dialogue recognizes its ignorance and purposefully declares the many assumptions as fact while claustrophobic guitars progressively build in the background. At 1:17 the track is fully realized, growing into an anthemic teenage daydream that, in the end, is reminded of its initial anxiety.

On “Hydrangeas”, McGee envisions an idyllic life in the suburbs in opposition to the growling city streets. The small-room-inspired introduction is filled with flowy layers of plucked electric guitars, roomy drums, and a steel pedal that gently tethers listeners from moment to moment. The track grows into a guitar-driven rock and sway, filled with movement and a busy bass line that pushes listeners against the down-beat groove.

The EP concludes with the slow-burning indie-rock epic “Madison”. Heart-wrenching lyrics and a powerful vocal performance sits above thunderous drums and hypnotic acoustic guitars. The Mid Western Emo-styled riffs evoke listeners to zone out and individually experience the music. The slowly built tension is transformed into a cathartic and explosive ending at 3:10, an intoxicating finale that is sure to make listeners want to replay and repeat.

Curtis Millen – Driver’s Seat

Have you ever had your partner boss you about all day but when you get to the bedroom and the clothes come off – you’re the boss! “Driver’s Seat” is a high-octane funk song reassuring your other half that their pleasure is in good hands. Produced by Niké Laos, taking inspiration from Stevie Wonder and Vulfpeck, with it’s blend of old and new school funk.

Curtis Millen is an Irish soul and funk singer originally from Belfast, who is now living in the Netherlands. Having been heavily influenced by the diverse and energetic music of Prince, Stevie Wonder and Tom Jones, Curtis moved to Rotterdam in 2021 to ply his trade in one of the most vibrant spots in Europe for funk and jazz fusion and has established himself as conductor of energy in the Randstad region.

Rising star Yme shows with her new single “Get Lost” that rock is far from dead. Inspired by the energetic sound of AC/DC, Yme creates an exciting track that will make you bang your head. Zuid-Hollandse bands starten muzikale inzamelingsactie voor lokale kinderen samen met Buurthuis De Jeugdhaven

Op 9 september 2024 is een benefietnummer uitgebracht om geld in te zamelen voor Buurthuis De Jeugdhaven. Voor de opname van ‘Rattle The Cage’ heeft de Haagse rockband Salesmen krachten gebundeld met The Nectar Effect (Leiden), Troubled (Leiden), LIFED (Den Haag) en Artemis (Delft). Op 23 oktober 2024 wordt het nummer met alle 19 artiesten live uitgevoerd in PAARD, Den Haag. Vanaf de release tot en met het optreden in PAARD kan gedoneerd worden aan het goede doel via https://www.geef.nl/nl/actie/stichting-jeugdwerk-en-salesmen-geven-een-kind-vakantie/donateurs

De bands willen via deze actie aandacht vragen voor de groeiende verdeeldheid en kansenongelijkheid in de maatschappij, die het hardst wordt gevoeld door kinderen. ‘Rattle The Cage’ is geschreven met dit thema in het achterhoofd. Kinderen staan aan de basis van een betere toekomst voor ons allemaal. De bands hebben daarom met opzet gekozen voor een lokaal goed doel dat zich inzet voor het geluk van kinderen. Juist bij lokale organisatie kunnen kleinere acties grote verschillen maken – en met Buurthuis De Jeugdhaven om de hoek van PAARD kon het haast niet meer lokaal.

Buurthuis De Jeugdhaven is onderdeel van Stichting Jeugdwerk en zet zich al jaren in voor kansengelijkheid. Het buurthuis biedt onder andere educatieve ondersteuning, sportactiviteiten en (zomer)kampen. Met het geld dat wordt ingezameld zal De Jeugdhaven zich inzetten voor het verzorgen van vakantiekampen voor Haagse kinderen van gezinnen die dit anders niet zouden kunnen betalen.

Elk van deze bands heeft een eigen unieke stijl, maar samen brengen zij een krachtig nummer dat het publiek zal inspireren om in actie te komen voor het goede doel. “Wij zijn ontzettend trots op deze samenwerking,” zegt Ivo Kuijf, bassist van Salesmen. “Met ‘Rattle The Cage’ willen we mensen niet alleen vermaken, maar ook bewust maken van de uitdagingen waar veel kinderen in onze stad mee te maken hebben. Zomerkampen bieden deze kinderen niet alleen een vakantie, maar ook onvergetelijke herinneringen en de kans om nieuwe vrienden te maken.”

Review: Basil Babychan’s “Sun Dance” – A Neoclassical Anthem for Resilience

No Offense releases first single from debut album

Late 2021 alt-rock outift No Offense from Enkhuizen began recording their locally anticipated debut album. Production took the boys over two years due to unforeseen circumstances forcing the band to switch studio’s. Finally, in 2024, No Offense is releasing the first single off of this record, named ‘From Altair to Vega’.

The single, Zero-Sum Game, blends hand-made machine-samples with their trademarked hardrock riffs to create a heavy hitting song that doesn’t lose it’s danceability. Lyrically, the song explores theme’s of the common man, and aversion to a 9-to-5 job.

Zero-Sum Game releases on the 28th of August.

A second single will release sometime in September.

From Altair will release on the 25th of October.

Friday Fight Night is een unieke combinatie van boksen en muziek, georganiseerd door Bokshuis en Goldwölff. En wat dacht je van deze fantastische line-up van bands? The Meadow laat de jaren ’90 herbeleven met debuut EP ‘Drowning’

Vol spanning en enthousiasme kondigt The Meadow, de opkomende alternative rockband uit Nederland, de release aan van hun debuut EP ‘Drowning’ die op 2 augustus verschijnt. Deze vier tracks tellende EP, volledig zelf geproduceerd en gemixt door de band, belooft luisteraars mee te nemen op een intense en emotionele reis door de diepste krochten van de menselijke psyche.

The Meadow spreekt met hun muziek rechtstreeks tot degenen die vertrouwd zijn met de nachtelijke uren en worstelen met de chaos van het bestaan. Met een duister en gritty randje duiken ze diep in thema’s als alcoholmisbruik, depressie en nachtmerries. ‘Drowning’ is een reflectie van hun meest persoonlijke, eerlijke en rauwe emoties en markeert een belangrijk moment voor de band, waarin ze hun geluid en imago hebben gevonden. “Deze EP is het begin van een nieuw pad voor ons, een pad waarvan de bestemming nog een raadsel is,” aldus de bandleden.

Twee nummers van de EP, ‘Friendly Reminder’ en ‘DOA’, werden eerder uitgebracht als singles en hebben gezamenlijk al 20.000 streams op Spotify bereikt. Dit succes toont de resonantie van hun muziek bij het publiek en geeft een voorproefje van de aankomende EP. De ruwe en harde sound van hun nummers vertaalt zich ook naar hun live-optredens en sociale media-uitingen, waarmee ze een meeslepende en energieke ervaring bieden. De nummers en de stijl van de band doet denken aan opkomende bands als Wunderhorse, Basht en Badflower, maar ook aan oude bekenden uit de jaren ’90 zoals Nirvana en Audioslave.

De band staat deze na-zomer ook geregeld op de planken met optredens in Podium34 in Borger (21 september), City Hotel De Jonge in Assen (27 september) en Het Vliegende Paard in Zwolle (20 november). Fans kunnen zich verheugen op meer data die binnenkort worden aangekondigd.
