Beggars Can Be Choosers

Beggars Can Be Choosers is the first single of the new punkrockband Bayline taken from the upcoming EP.

“Beggars Can Be Choosers is based on the expression “Beggars can’t be choosers”. It’s a song for the hardworking caretakers, hospital workers, doctors, nurses and all who worked their asses off during the pandemic and felt like they didn’t have a choice but to help those in need. Rather than giving them the recognition and compensation they deserved we honoured them with an applause. Still they got called upon and were pushed to work harder than before. Night or day. Those people should have a right to choose and deserve to beg for something!”.

Harley Francine brengt op 8 juli hun langverwachte debuutalbum ‘Derailed’ uit

Met veel ogen op ze uit de Nederlandse indie-scene is de grunge band Harley Francine aan het stijgen in de charts. Met goed ontvangen singles zoals ‘Mason, Run!’, ‘Dagger Tongue’ en ‘Drown’, die veel radioplay hebben gekregen door heel Nederland, komt er nu een vervolg met 13 nummers: ‘Derailed’.

Het album bevat features van The Damned Few zangeres Dion Legebeke (Op ‘Dystopia’) en Reality Spill zanger Kees Dost (Op ‘Mason, Run!’).

Na 2,5 jaar schrijven ging de band naar Luttenberg om het album op te nemen met producer Ruud Tijs van Hillroad Records, die bekend staat om zijn werk met onder andere The Damned Few, Tricklebolt en een hoop andere bands en artiesten.

De Overijsselse band bestaat uit zanger en gitarist Luc de Vries, basgitarist Florian Honer en drummer Russell Sluiter. Vanwege een schoolband waar beide leden in zaten startten Florian en Russell Harley Francine in begin 2019 met z’n tweeën. In de zomer van 2019 kwam Luc erbij door een online advertentie op muzikantenbank.net. Met een gedeelde passie voor jaren 80 en 90 alternatieve rock muziek is de band sinds 2019 non-stop bezig met zich ontwikkelen en vernieuwen. Een keerpunt van de band was toen ze de support act voor The Damned Few waren in september 2020. Na het eerste echte optreden gespeeld te hebben zoekt de band naar meer, en hebben ze sindsdien op een aantal andere plekken gespeeld en meerdere interviews gehad met radio stations en podcasts.

Op 8 juli presenteert Harley Francine het album in Hedon (Zwolle) met support van de bands Headfirst en Rockford. Samen met de 2 andere grunge rock bands is Harley Francine misschien wel de meest stijgende band in Nederland op het moment. Met een verdubbelend aantal radio interviews bij onder andere Alternative FM en een stabiele hoeveelheid radio airplay over meerdere stations door Nederland laat Harley Francine zien wie ze zijn, en wat ze te bieden hebben: Een album dat de jaren 90 een nieuwe jasje geeft en de indie scene iets nieuws en origineels biedt.

Isle of Wight alt/grunge outfit ‘Pet Lounge’ release debut single – ‘No Fun’

Isle of Wight based alt / grunge act Pet Lounge (aka Guy Page – drummer and producer of UK band Coach Party) release their debut single “No Fun” this July.

The spin-off shares some familiar musical flavours with that of Coach Party, but Guy’s style here leans to a more rough, raw and grungy feel (for fans of Dinosaur Jr, Weezer, Saves The Day, Hell Is For Heroes).

Talking about the single, Guy says: “No Fun” is a song of self-deprecation, which sums up the feeling that you’re just not as funny, interesting or fun to be around as the vast majority of people you associate with. And then there’s a guitar solo.”

Accompanied by a lo-fi lyric video, this debut release is a hooky, hard hitting track which comes in at a satisfying sub 2:30. Produced and mixed by Guy, it’s a reliable sign of what to expect from future Pet Lounge releases.

Soundtrack voor een reis door de hel – DIVINA COMMEDIA

Elly Kellner produceerde muziek voor het mode theater DIVINA COMMEDIA van designer Ward Warmoeskerken. Samen gaven ze beeld en geluid aan Dante’s Hel, geïnspireerd door het meesterwerk van Dante Alighieri, die 700 jaar geleden stierf. Het mode theater ging in april in première. De muziek is nu in eigen beheer op EP uitgebracht. Al luisterend kun je veilig neerdalen in de hel, in de wetenschap dat dit een verhaal is dat goed afloopt.

DIVINA COMMEDIA opent met Hoeveel Draad waarin de schikgodinnen de levensdraad spinnen. Aan hen de taak al mijmerend te beslissen wanneer ze de draad zullen doorknippen. “Hier is het begin, het begin na het einde”. In het nummer Wat Deed Je weet Elly de druk van de wraakgodinnen te vangen in een onheilspellende soundscape met summiere tekst. Via Gouden Bergen brengt ze met zelfreflectie de luisteraar in rustiger vaarwater. In de afsluiter Engelenhaar komen we aan in het Paradijs, waar een warm welkom ons wacht in het licht. “Licht en engelenhaar, in de wolken. Al die liefde daar, in de wolken”.

De muziek werd geschreven en gearrangeerd door Elly Kellner.
BJ Baartmans (bekend van zijn werk met Jack Poels, Iain Matthews en JW Roy) speelt de mandoline in Engelenhaar.

“Being bullied is one of the worst things i have ever experienced besides my autism.
As a result of being bullied during my elementary school period I wrote this song as a form of therapy, unfortunately it never got out of my head. Although i was treated with professional therapy.
I hope it will help other children who are being bullied today!”
