Vanavond om 21:00 uur Pinguin Radio x The Daily Indie podcast #2

Iedere eerste dinsdag van de maand krijg je op Pinguin Radio tussen 21.00 en 22.00 uur een sneak preview van The Daily Indie x Pinguin Radio podcast ‘The Monthly’. Korte fragmenten uit de opnames omlijst met veel nieuwe muziek!

Aflevering #2 gaat over muziek als levensbehoefte in plaats van luxeproduct. Rian Moonen praat met Erik Hitters en Arno van der Hoeven van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. In het project ‘Poplive’ laten zij zien welke impact livemuziek heeft op een stad.

Daarna vertelt Berend van der Schans van VNPF (Vereniging Nederlandse Poppodia en Festivals) over de pilot-evenementen die er deze maand nog aankomen, over cultuur in de politiek en hoe de pandemie onze kijk op cultuur misschien wel heeft veranderd.

Marieke McKenna van Mink Records sluit het uur af met haar muzikale tip van dit moment.

The Biggest Livestream Festival Ever wordt gesteund door Gemeente Ede en Stichting Idee in Uitvoering

Pinguin Radio presenteert om 22:00 uur Heaven Radio #263

Pinguin Radio en Popmagazine Heaven delen twee belangrijke eigenschappen: een passie voor goede muziek en een volstrekt onafhankelijke opstelling. Dat moest natuurlijk tot een samenwerking leiden.

Heaven verzorgt iedere dinsdagavond van 22:00 tot 23:00 een uur lang de muziek op Pinguin Radio. Net als Pinguin heeft Heaven oor voor – bijna – alle popmuziek. In het uurtje radio hoor je muziek uit verschillende genres: (classic)rock, roots, folk, soul, world, jazz en blues.

Liefhebbers van Heaven Radio luisteren natuurlijk ook naar ons zachtere zusje Pinguin Pluche.

Grauzone festival gaat online en maakt eerste namen bekend

GRAUZONE FESTIVAL GAAT ONLINE EN MAAKT EERSTE NAMEN BEKEND
met exclusieve optredens van onder andere Amenra (akoestisch), Whispering Sons, Sylvie Kreusch, Zanias, Sons, Rumours en 4B2M

Grauzone Festival maakt met Amenra (BE), Whispering Sons (BE), Sylvie Kreusch (BE), Zanias (Aus), Sons (BE), Spill Gold (NL), Rumours (BE), 4B2M (NL), Siem Reap (BE), DJ Reka (ES), Kel Assouf (Niger), Global Charming (NL), Pablo Bozzi (FR), Bolis Pupul (BE), De Nooit Moede (BE) de eerste namen bekend. Op vrijdag 21 en zaterdag 22 mei vindt de achtste editie van Grauzone plaats. Naast muziek zullen er op meerdere kanalen ook interviews, uniek archiefmateriaal en kunst getoond worden. Het festival is gratis te bekijken en Grauzone geeft de mogelijkheid om via een pay what you want link het festival te steunen.

Na de succesvolle editie in 2020, waarbij Grauzone een van de laatste fysieke muziek- en kunstfestivals was, wordt Grauzone 2021 wegens COVID-19 een online editie. Eerder werd het festival weekend al eenmalig verplaatst van februari naar mei. De eerste namen van Grauzone 2022 zullen tijdens het online event worden aangekondigd en dan gaat ook kaartverkoop van start. Grauzone 2022 zal weer in februari plaatsvinden.

Binnen het programma presenteert Grauzone een speciaal onderdeel gericht op de heuse ‘wave’ van urgente en zeer spannende Belgische acts onder aanvoering van bekendere namen als Whispering Sons en Amenra. Grauzone heeft een aantal van de beste en nieuwste acts samengebracht onder de noemer ‘The Sound Of Belgium’. Meerdere bands zullen zich hier voor het eerst aan Nederlands publiek presenteren.

Amenra is een van de meest invloedrijke acts van België. De concerten zijn unieke gebeurtenissen met een sterk ritueel karakter. De band speelt een exclusieve akoestische show op een bijzondere locatie. Whispering Sons bliezen het post-punk genre nieuw leven in en speelden al vaker op Grauzone. Het nieuwe, tweede album Several Others verschijnt in juni en op Grauzone zullen zij dit voor het eerst ten gehore brengen. Sylvie Kreusch (ex-Warhaus), één van de meest getalenteerde opkomende Belgische sterren, doet met haar mysterieuze elektronische voodoo pop en haar zwoele stem denken aan Lana Del Rey, Charlotte Gainsbourg en Jane Birkin. Sons uit Melsele spelen psychedelische garage punk en high energy post-punk en zijn volgens KEXP: ”one of the must-see live acts performing right now”.

Tuareg groep Kel Assouf, met frontman Anana Ag Haroun komt oorspronkelijk uit Niger maar nu gevestigd te Brussel, spelen bedwelmende Noord-Afrikaanse woestijn rock in de stijl van Mdou Moctar/Tinariwen met Jimi Hendrix invloeden. Donkere hypnotiserende electro komt van Rumours, met Brutus’ drummer/zangeres Stefanie Mannaerts op synths/beats en Hannah Vandenbussche met zang die balanceert tussen Chelsea Wolfe en Fever Ray. Siem Reap is het shoegaze solo project van Gilles Demolder (Oathbreaker/Wiegedood). De Nooit Moede haalt inspiratie uit de jaren ’80 new wave met Factory/4AD invloeden. Hun debuut EP uit 2020 werd gemixt door David Morley (Depeche Mode, The Orb). Bolis Pupul is Boris Zeebroek (The Germans en andere helft van Charlotte Adigery) met analoge synths getekend op het label van Soulwax. Denk aan Logic System, Telex en Kraftwerk.

Nederlands geluid komt van Global Charming die een mix maken van Talking Heads en Modern Lovers en het psychedelische kraut duo Spill Gold. Daarnaast is er space-synth-krautrock van de gloednieuwe supergroep 4B2M met leden van o.a. De Staat en Go Back to the Zoo.

De Berlijnse DJ’s Zanias (Linea Aspera), Reka en Pablo Bozzi (Imperial Black Unit) laten je dansen in je huiskamer tot in de late uurtjes.

Dansende Beren Radio, je wekelijkse uurtje nieuwe muziek waar zelfs beren van gaan dansen. En pinguïns. Ik zag twee beren samen dansen! Dansende Beren is het wekelijks uurtje nieuwe muziektips aangeboden door de mannen en vrouwen van dansendeberen.be.

Dansende Beren is een Belgische muzieksite. Populair en met smaak.  Geen specifieke voorkeur voor een bepaald genre, maar muziek waar zelfs beren op dansen, en zoals we allemaal weten hebben beren geen specifieke voorkeur. De beren proberen de belangrijkste nieuwe muzikale ontdekkingen of gewoon leuke nummers te posten. En die hoor je in Dansende Beren Radio terug.

Billbunker toont diepgang en veelzijdigheid op nieuwe EP

Utrechtse rockband groeit en verkent nieuwe paden.

In 2020 stond de muziekwereld zo goed als stil. Maar niet voor de Utrechtse rockband Billbunker! Tussen twee lockdowns door nam de band vijf nummers op die nu staan verzameld op de nieuwe EP “Sliding into Numbland”.
De nieuwe tracks laten Billbunker horen in volle, gevarieerde glorie.
De energieke opener “There’s A Fire” zet de toon met zijn memorabele baslijn en hemelbestormende gitaarsolo. Ballad “Barrow” bouwt langzaam op naar een onontkoombare climax. Ook het melodieuze en meeslepende “Hey Somebody” maakt indruk. Op “Fright Flight” doet de band een geslaagde poging het virtuele dak er af te blazen, om op het eerder op single verschenen “How Brave” weer wat gas terug te nemen. De waardige afsluiter van de EP is een emotioneel eerbetoon aan een overleden dierbare.

Met “Sliding into Numbland” zet Billbunker een belangrijke stap in zijn ontwikkeling en toont de band zowel zijn diepgang als veelzijdigheid.
