The Arthurs brengt het veelbelovende tweede album “Glass” uit

De Amsterdamse/Rotterdamse alternative rockband The Arthurs heeft afgelopen vrijdag (25 juni) het tweede album ‘Glass’ uitgebracht. ‘Glass’ (tien tracks) is hiermee de opvolger van debuutalbum ‘When I’m Sane’ uit 2017. Een week voor de release van ‘Glass’ werd de rockende single ‘Window’ uitgebracht, die ook op het nieuwe album te horen is. ‘Window’ was inmiddels al “Video van de Dag” bij Pinguin Radio en “Video van de Week” bij Never Mind The Hype.

De muziek van The Arthurs is te omschrijven als melodieuze, dynamische alternative rock, waarin scheurend elektrisch gitaargeweld wordt afgewisseld met melodieuze en melancholische, soms psychedelische composities. Er zijn invloeden te horen van bands uit uiteenlopende tijdperken, zoals The Doors, Nirvana, The Smiths en Pixies, maar de band onderscheidt zichzelf vooral met een eigen unieke sound en stijl.

In november staat de band in het voorprogramma van de legendarische Engelse new wave-band Fischer-Z in De Boerderij in Zoetermeer.

Pinguin Radio presenteert de Vinyl33 – Week 26 / 2021

Record Store Day Nederland, met de onafhankelijke platenzaak als middelpunt, breidt haar activiteiten met de Vinyl33, verder uit.

Op Pinguin Radio draaien we elke week zo veel mogelijk nieuwe releases, de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer, de klimmer van de week en uiteraard veel tracks uit de top 10.

Nieuwe single van Chabliz: ‘Beyond the Tides’

“The sea is a poetic metaphor for the corona crisis that we are, or were in. But this is also a song about other, more personal crises that people could experience during their lives. The sea gives and takes. This is a song about hope and fear. We wrote it when we were in the middle of it ourselves. We finished the song during the recent lockdown. It’s a poppy rockduet with poetic lyrics. We hope you’ll enjoy it. The song will be released on Spotify on the 2nd of July.”

Bruis 2021 presenteert volledige line-up

Na een digitale editie in 2020, is Muziekgieterij erop gebrand om in 2021 weer een écht festival te kunnen neerzetten. En waar kan dit beter dan in hun eigen venue en achtertuin, aan het Richie Backfireplein in Maastricht?

De 2021-editie van Bruis is als het ware een overgang en staat niet alleen in het teken van een terugkeer naar normale festivals, maar fungeert traditiegetrouw als ‘kickstart’ voor het clubseizoen in de Euregio. Na een zwaar jaar zonder shows, loopt de agenda van het poppodium voor de tweede helft van 2021 alweer behoorlijk vol. Bruis is daarmee de amuse voor wat er nog allemaal komen gaat!

Met een line-up van maar liefst 39 internationale en Nederlandse artiesten weet de organisatie van Bruis zowel de doorgewinterde muziekliefhebber als de avontuurlijke festivalganger te prikkelen. Wat te denken van bands als White Lies, De Staat en Balthazar, maar ook Ruben Block (Triggerfinger) die allemaal naar Maastricht trekken? De gehele line-up en de tickets vind je op www.bruismaastricht.nl.

VESTROCK DOWNTOWN: 5 EN 6 NOVEMBER 2021
Onder voorbehoud van toestemming van de overheid, houden we op 5 en 6 november 2021, in het hart van het historische centrum van Hulst, het nieuwe kleinschalige najaarsfestival VESTROCK DOWNTOWN. Met de intieme sfeer van VESTROCK, een heerlijke line-up en zonder anderhalve meter restricties. We kijken ernaar uit om met jullie de vriendschap te vieren en op het leven te proosten!

KAARTVERKOOP
Tickets voor VESTROCK DOWNTOWN 2021 zijn per direct beschikbaar via www.vestrock.nl. Het aantal beschikbare kaarten is beperkt. Voor VESTROCK DOWNTOWN 2021 zijn in eerste instantie enkel combikaarten voor vrijdag en zaterdag te verkrijgen. Dagkaarten worden vanaf 1 september beschikbaar gesteld. De kaartverkoop voor VESTROCK 2022 (op 3, 4 en 5 juni) is reeds gestart.

Into The Great Wide Open gaat toch door: kunst- en muziekfestival op Vlieland vindt in een eenmalige aangepaste vorm plaats

Het gaat gebeuren, een editie van Into The Great Wide Open in 2021. Onder de noemer ‘Let It Happen’ presenteert het festival van 2 t/m 5 september een aangepaste vorm met minder publiek, maar met debuterende artiesten en een verscheidenheid aan kunstenaars. Vandaag kondigt de organisatie dertig namen van het affiche aan. De kaartverkoop start zaterdag 3 juli om 12:00 uur.​

De organisatie is blij dat ze, na het maanden afkoersen op verschillende scenario’s, deze bescheiden editie van het festival aan het publiek mag presenteren. Minder locaties, minder publiek, meer ruimte en meer ontdekken. En zonder anderhalve meter. Met Het Sportveld als festivalhart biedt Into The Great Wide Open vier dagen programma met vooruitstrevende muziek, (kinder)kunst, gesproken woord en film.

De muziekprogrammering richt zich dit jaar op debuterende acts. Into The Great Wide Open presenteert sinds haar begin al artiesten in de beginfase van hun carrière, artiesten die het juist nu een podium wil bieden. Zo speelt de Ierse folkformatie Lankum, singer-songwriter Mychelle uit Londen, de Australische indiepopband The Goon Sax alsook het Britse jazzcollectief Steam Down, maar ook aanstormend vaderlands talent als Nagasaki Swim en The Resurrection.

Het kunstthema van dit jaar is Transform/Transit. Een uitgebreide kunstroute, verspreid over het eiland, staat daarmee niet zozeer stil bij waar we naar toe gaan, maar bij het punt van verandering zelf, in al zijn schijnbare tijdelijkheid. Met werken door o.a. Children of the Light, Marjolijn Boterenbrood en Heleen Blanken.

De Goede Reis
Het vernieuwende duurzaamheidsconcept De Goede Reis wordt dit jaar opnieuw ingevoerd. Hiermee helpen festivalbezoekers mee het festival klimaatneutraal te maken. Op iedere verkocht festivalticket zit €5,- Goede Reis-toeslag. Deze toeslag krijgen bezoekers terug wanneer zij fossielvrij naar het festival reizen. De toeslag van bezoekers die niet per trein, fossielvrije festivalbus, elektrisch/biobrandstof, (deel)auto, fiets, zeilboot of lopend komen wordt gebruikt om de gehele reis van alle festivalbezoekers klimaatneutraal te maken.

Hiermee is Into The Great Wide Open het eerste Europese festival dat klimaatneutraal reizen voor al haar bezoekers de norm maakt in plaats van een optie. Hiermee kan het festival haar nog niet te voorkomen rest-uitstoot waarschijnlijk helemaal opruimen.

Alle muzieknamen die vandaag zijn aangekondigd: Anne Müller, Bernadeta Astari Trio, Billie Marten, Blood Wizard, caroline, Chung Kings, Iguana Death Cult, Keep Dancing Inc., Kids With Buns, Lankum, Mazey Haze, Meskerem Mees, Mind Enterprises, Mychelle, Nagasaki Swim, Pongo, Real Lies, St. Paul, Steam Down, Sylvie Kreusch, The Goon Sax, The Resurrection, Véras, Waxfiend.

Alle kunstnamen die vandaag zijn aangekondigd: Children of the Light, Marjolijn Boterenbrood, Heleen Blanken, Matteo Marangoni & Dieter Vandoren, Susanne Khalil Yusef, Sébastien Robert, Maaike Anne Stevens.

Een aantal toevoegingen aan de kunst- en muziekprogrammering volgen in augustus. Dan zullen ook kinderkunst, gesproken woord, film en food line-up bekend worden gemaakt.

MONOKINO SHARES NEW SINGLE “YOUR UNDERGROUND”

Monokino shares his new cross-genre single “Your Underground,” an edgy track with a hyperpop/alt rock flavor. The gritty, electric track explores Monokino’s pent up frustrations towards the music industry and his feelings of anxiety, angst, and imposter syndrome within the so-called “underground scene”. Opening with a majestic choir of synths and harmonies, the song quickly dives into an 8-bit style sampled beat, punctuated by wailing guitars – complete with pulsing bass, electrowave textures, and rapid fire lyricism. Simultaneously cathartic and energetic, you could imagine “Your Underground” pulsing from the depths of a grungey basement rave. The breathless music is the perfect platform for Monokino to experiment with his vocals, effortlessly undulating from falsetto and baritone and back again.

On the track, Monokino shares: “‘Your Underground’ goes a bit further in the sense that now an entire (music) scene is trying to proclaim what is right or wrong. Although the industry is seen by some as more democratic (‘everyone can be an artist, just upload a song, create your own scene’), that scene is valued by a system that is very similar to how everything used to be: new music is promoted and liked through the lens of a Spotify playlist and its streams measure its importance.”

Dutch artist George van Wetering, AKA Monokino, has continued to develop his chameleonic approach to music and art. His music slips and slides between sonic pallettes and tropes, transcending genre and creating an entirely new sonic landscape of its own. Hailed as “a free spirit that finds harmony with disparate elements and a pattern without a formula” Monokino’s uniquely rock/pop has already struck a chord with audiences across the globe. His music has been released by labels in the US, Europe and record company Modern Sky – a major player in the Asian music industry.

Signed to Zip Records in the Netherlands, Monokino’s international reach has seen his works released by China’s largest independent music label Modern Sky. Combining his time between Nanjing, Shanghai and Amsterdam, his new work has already gained support from a diverse range of tastemakers including Janice Long on BBC Radio.
