Nick Mulvey is pleased to announce details of his second album, Wake Up Now. It is released on the 8th September 2017 through Fiction Records/Caroline International. In conjunction with its announcement, a second track from the record, Myela, is streaming now.

At a time of great uncertainty, it helps to surround yourself with those things you trust, and so marks the timely return of the reliably brilliant Nick Mulvey. His standout debut album, First Mind, in 2015 was the introduction of an artist who shirked the conventional and side-stepped the expected. It was a record of opposing shades, all leftfield rhythms, and harnessing an exquisitely natural guitarist doing extraordinary things, painting unique colours across a very moreish collection of songs. It was quite peerless, and translated to the stage alongside a fine collection of talented players that formed his band.

Nick’s return with the first fruits of his new album sessions has brought with it his own outlook on a world that can’t decide which direction it’s going, or quite what to do with itself. We’re all hastily trying to find our spot within these times, and Nick is no exception, but if clarity is part-resolved by a call to arms, perhaps it’s time to make that call. Unconditional, the first new music from Mulvey in over two years, is a multi-layered, groove-based tune that doesn’t stray too far from First Mind, but far enough to sound fresh, unique and exciting.

Unconditional is one of a number of standout songs from the sprawling Wake Up Now, an album rooted in the conscience and all that it stands for. It’s also a record that harbours great community, welcoming a host of new and multi-talented musicians with a flourishing skillset. That sense of community was drilled home by Brian Eno in a few pre-recording meet-ups between the two, who implored Nick to open himself up more and consider sharing the weight-load. The idea of opening himself up more has filtered into Nick’s lyrics too, once swathed in metaphor upon metaphor, they’re now at the heart of this record’s identity. Clarity. Humanity.

Production duties here are handed to Ethan Johns at Real World Studios who recorded Nick and his band live and at their most raw to reinforce that key community spirit, and whose eventual finished tapes Nick then took up to London and presented to First Mind producer Dan Carey who meticulously sewed in the electronic elements. Standout tracks are almost as crucial as the sum of Wake Up Now’s parts, and the seismic Mountain To Move (with the album title at the heart of the song’s refrain) and We Are Never Apart implore repeat plays.

it’s a much more relaxed Nick Mulvey that delivers Wake Up Now. Comfortable within his own skin, for want of a less travelled term. The community he’s built around himself all sit on the same page together, letting the music and conversation at the heart of this record flow naturally and at ease with the world around them.

It’s the work of a special British talent ready for the next phase, whatever that phase will be. Join him.

Caroline Benelux is een muzieklabel dat zich grotendeels richt op indie en alternatieve muziek. Het jonge enthousiaste Benelux team is onderdeel van Caroline International dat kantoren heeft over de hele wereld. Caroline is een revival van het in 1973 opgerichte Caroline Label, dat oorspronkelijk door Richard Branson werd opgericht om platen uit te brengen binnen zijn eigen muzikale passie: alternatieve prog-rock. Het huidige label richt zich op alles wat goed en credible is in de wereld van de indie muziek: St. Vincent, Bear’s Den, Tame Impala, Childish Gambino, Nick Mulvey, Thurston Moore, The Amazons en Nederlandse bands als Orange Skyline, PAUW, De Staat, Chef’Special & many more.

De documentaire Kristians Prelude gaat 27 juni in première in EYE Amsterdam. Deze muziekdocumentaire
over gitarist Kristian Strik van The Naked Sweat Drips werd gemaakt door de andere gitarist
van dezelfde formatie, Winand Derks van de Ven. “Vorig jaar werd bij Kristian voor de tweede keer een hersentumor
geconstateerd”, vertelt Stefan Kollee van The Naked Sweat Drips. “Over het gevecht en de rol van muziek en vriendschap daarin, maakte Winand Kristians Prelude.”

De film is een coproductie van de Nederlandse Filmacademie en AVRO/TROS.

The Naked Sweat Drips combineert sinds 2010 intense psychedelische klanken met psychopathische teksten, gebracht met een dubbele gitaarattack, schreeuwend Hammondorgel en aangrijpende zang. De oorspronkelijk Boxmeerse band bestaat uit Winand Derks van de Ven (gitaar), Luc Jeuken (toetsen), Stefan Kollee (zang), Kristian Strik (gitaar), Rick Veldkamp (bas) en Jimmi Vos (drums).

Dit zestal maakt psychogrunge die doet denken aan het maniakale van Nick Cave, de groove van Queens of the Stone Age en het schizofrene van Pink Floyd, gespeeld met branie en tomeloze energie.

Mantra brengt 23 juni debuut-EP Merdeka uit op Suburban Records. De jonge Haarlemmers veroorzaken al een kleine anderhalf jaar opwinding onder tieners en twintigers in het land en komen nu tot de voorlopige climax van hun bestaan met een releaseshow in de Cinétol in Amsterdam.

Mantra laat zich in twee woorden samenvatten als psychedelische grunge. Begonnen in obscure kroegjes in Haarlem, werkten ze langzamerhand toe naar optredens in Paradiso, de Melkweg, Mainstage Bevrijdingspop en een uitverkochte Palmtra-show in het Patronaat. In 2016 won de band de Rob Acda Award. In 2017 werd Mantra zelfs voor het tweede jaar op rij uitgenodigd voor het Haarlemse Bevrijdingspop.

Dus zin in een zweterig avondje in een blokkendoos van 30 vierkante meter? Er is plek voor een man of 150, dus snelheid in de aanschaf van kaarten is geboden.

Weet je nog? Singer-songwriter, verhalenverteller en reizende muzikant Bob Wayne verloor een weddenschap en moest een cover opnemen van een nummer wat zijn beste vriend uitgekozen had. Terwijl Bob van mening was dat zijn cover van All About That Bass zijn imago zou schaden, dacht zijn platenmaatschappij daar anders over. Zij boden hem een zak geld voor een album met alleen maar covers en Bob ging akkoord. Na zes albums met onvervalste outlaw country, gaat hij buiten zijn kader en maakt hij een full on biggest hits album met een aantal van de grootste hits: Hits The Hits. Op 22 juni komt hij naar Duycker te Hoofddorp.

“When I had the idea to record a cover album my first thoughts were Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, so my biggest influences in this kind of music”, says BOB WAYNE. “However, in the end, you cannot top Johnny Cash. Until now I had never really played any cover versions, not even live, simply because you cannot hit the mark of Johnny Cash. Whenever I play his songs it is never as good as the original.” Maar het waren Cash zijn succesvolle ‘American Recordings’ die Bob het idee gaven voor een cover album. Hij covert nummers van o.a. Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails en Nick Cave.

Als je al een Bob Wayne believer was is zijn nieuwe album een fijne afwisseling. Mocht je Bob nog niet kennen, laat je dan meenemen op Bob’s biggest hit avontuur!

Crimson Inc
Het support van Bob Wayne wordt verzorgd door Crimson Inc. Een eerlijke americana band die muziek maken over tijdloze onderwerpen als liefde en vriendschap. Aan het roer staat Dikkie De Rooij. Door zijn achterover gekamde haar en schippersjasje leek hij als twee druppels water op de schurk van Suske en Wiske en kreeg daardoor de bijnaam Crimson. Verwacht vurige americana, country en bluesgrass geinspireerde muziek die je meenemen naar de vlaktes van Amerika.

LIVEDATUM 22/06 Duycker, Hoofddorp

In 2015 stonden Harrison Mills en Clayton Knight, die samen het duo ODESZA vormen, voor het laatst in Paradiso tijdens een uitverkochte ADE-show. Na een korte afwezigheid zijn ze terug met een nieuw album getiteld A Moment Apart.

Het album staat vol met uitgebalanceerde nummers waarbij je atmosferische en filmische klanken hoort, maar ook de zomerse synths en drums waarmee ze bekend zijn geworden. Onlangs brachten ze het langverwachte nummer Line Of Sight uit, samen met met Wynne en Mansionair.

Als onderdeel van de A Moment Apart Tour, treedt ODESZA 5 oktober op in Paradiso. Voor deze speciale gelegenheid is producer Hayden James uitgenodigd als special guest. De ticketverkoop is inmiddels van start gegaan.
