Should’ve been strong

Our latest release “Should’ve Been Strong” is out now! This song actually came to be out of two separate songs. The lyrics I had written many years ago to a different tune. That song became such a hassle, mostly instrumental, that I kinda just forgot about the whole track all together.
The instrumental part I wrote around the bridge/solo part (of which there is not a lot left in the song). It was beautiful, the sound coming out of the guitar at that moment and I couldn’t help myself playing it over and over. At some point I wrote the rest of the instrumental guitar parts but most of it came to be in the process of recording.

I love writing songs in dialog and a dialog works better if there’s someone who answers. So having Rianne in the band really completes the sound of Jessie Beretta.
The name Jessie Beretta insinuates something masculine but feminine. Something strong but smooth. And I do feel that that’s something that is represented in this new track.
It has a very pop meets americana vibe but maybe you should hear that for yourself see what comes to mind. We’d love to hear your opinion!

Pinguin Radio Showcase Groningen: Marieke Schenk, Scarlet Rose, Mind Your Step

Komt allen, komt allen. 29 december 2023

Drie nieuwe Penguin Artists op het podium van De Drie Gezusters in Groningen. Zoals je van ons gewend bent, hebben we weer een leuke selectie gemaakt van drie totaal verschillende acts.

Zorg dus dat je erbij bent, vanaf 20:30 uur ‘s avonds tot de late uurtjes. De entree is zoals altijd gratis en neem je handen mee want er moet geclapt worden! De winnaar van de avond krijgt zoals het hoort een plekje op Pinguin Radio Showcases tijdens ESNS.

Marieke speelt catchy popsongs. Ze maakt muziek om mensen te inspireren, zoals Miss Montreal haar geïnspireerd heeft. Dit doet ze door lekker zichzelf te zijn op het podium. Kortom; door Marieke haar energie is elk optreden er één om niet meer te vergeten.

In an era of an exces of bands, 4 friends decide to start one. They decide to do this simply because there are no bands in their village yet. With local gigs in their village’s café they obtain the status ‘local heroes’. They call themselves Scarlet Rose and with cofidence they manage to place themselves in serveral final places in various band competitions. Now they have decided to get their first songs recorded in a studio in the big city. Their first gigs under their own name, outside if their village, is in the UK, during the International Pop Overthrow festival in the famous Cavern Club.

Mind Your Step is een vierkoppige alternatieve rockband met een hardhitting maar melancholische sound. De Haarlemse groep weet keiharde riffs te combineren met ambient sounds en progressieve arrangementen die leiden tot een ongelofelijke setlist vol twists en turns, dromerige passages en epische climaxen.
