This is the brand new EP of Shar-C. Composed, written and sung by Shar-C.
Reggaeton with a twist. Not the common reggaeton.
Reggaeton is in need of innovation.

Shar-C combines basic reggaeton with European influences. You can hear that in the beat, but also in the melody line.
Shar-C arranges the music himself and together with his team they fine-tune it. He plays some instruments himself.
What Shar-C is trying to do is to bring a breath of fresh air to the world of reggaeton.
Shar-C’s lyrics are based on his own experiences.
It’s always about love and life.

Who is Shar-C
Bio:

As a youth, Shar-C grew-up living on a farm in the western part of Curaçao with his brother, grandmother, aunts, uncles and nephews. His mother worked on the eastside of the island and his father lived abroad. When he turned 7 years old he moved to a neighborhood called Ghetto in the middle of Curaçao with his mother and 5 years older brother. In spite of all the problems he had to face growing up, Shar-C’s escape remained music.
He won his first talent show at the age of 11. From that point on he was hooked and never stopped making music. As a teen on his home island of Curacao he organized music projects with local children, wrote for other musicians and DJs and performed for large groups of fans.
At the age of 17 Shar-C moved to Holland. A few years later he obtained his degree in social work. He has been working as a youth counselor for the last 15 years. Although he’s loved working with young people, making music has remained his number one passion.
Shar-C has played with different bands and solo artists in and around Amsterdam and has been contracted by major record companies and publishers.
Now with new found inspiration Shar-C has taken his Caribbean influence along with a sprinkle of Dutch-European flavor to create a fresh new Reggaeton sound. Check it for yourself and you will see that you cannot stand still.

Josephine Odhil – Rye

Josephine Odhil tovert weer met woorden en akkoorden op Rye, een van de prijsnummers van haar nieuwe album, Volatile.

Wat opvalt is niet alleen hoe fraai Josephine zingt, maar ook hoe verzorgd Rye is geproduceerd. Met subtiele stem dubbelingen, welgeplaatste galmpjes en keyboards die ketsen als een kei op het water creëert ze een magisch universum waarin ook Kate Bush, Björk en Tori Amos zich thuis zullen voelen.

Marathon – Mosquitos & Flies

Single twee van Marathon hakt er weer lekker in. Met zijn hoekige riff doet Mosquitos & Flies denken aan oude wave bands als het Belgische TC Matic met Arno Hintjes en het New Yorkse Bush Tetras. Punk, of zo je wilt postpunk, maar met een beat.

Maar er is wel wat veranderd in de afgelopen 40 jaar. De producties van toen klinken iel en mager vergeleken met de muur van geluid die Marathon hier optrekt. Marathon is opvallend karig met nieuwe liedjes, Mosquitos & Flies is pas de tweede single sinds de band twee jaar geleden de Amsterdam Popprijs won. Maar wat ze loslaten is dus raak!

Cloudsurfers – Cheap Cocaine

De ingrediënten garage, hard rock, grunge zijn algemeen gangbaar, en effecten als fuzz, galm, echo horen tot de basisuitrusting van iedere gitarist. Maar in handen van de dame en heren van Cloudsurfers smelten ze samen een puist superieure teringherrie die zijn gelijke niet kent.

Live deed de band uit Nijmegen al van zich spreken, maar op plaat klonk de band nog niet eerder zo vet. Dat is vet in de eigentijdse betekenis van top, tof super en strak en in de oude van dik, groot, vol en smerig. Debet aan het welslagen van Cheap Cocaine zijn producer Abel de Grefte (Cloud Mind) en mixer Michael Bager (o.a. King Gizzard). Goed nieuws dus dat er een compleet album aan zit te komen met dit topteam in de machinekamer.

Cloud Cafe – Some Times

Met Some Times bevestigt Cloud Café haar reputatie als een van de beste nieuwkomers van de jaren 20. Alles klopt weer, compositie, uitvoering en uitstraling.

De nieuwe single van de Amsterdammers is ook prettig anders. Is debuutsingle In Over Your Head een smeulend folk noir nummer met zijn vlotte tempo, slide guitar en meerstemmige refrein is Some Times bijna country. Dat het toch duidelijk twee songs zijn van dezelfde band hoor je aan de zang van Tara Wilts die tegelijk stoer en teder is en aan de speelse bas van Tom Radsma die dubbelt als producer. Jammer dat Cloud Café in maart geen album maar een EP ten doop houdt met een concert in de Paradiso. Maar dat is dan ook het enige minpuntje 😉

Marble Boy – Made Up Paradise

Op Made Up Paradise komt Marble Boy uit de verf als een leerling van de Mac DeMarco school voor laid back , lo fi wegdroompop.

Marble Boy is voor ons een nieuwe naam dus we moesten even op zoek naar het wie, waar en waarom. Google leert ons dat er nog een Marble Boy is, in Rusland. Die boy is overigens een girl. Er bestaat ook een boek dat The Marble Boy heet. En er is een piercingsbedrijf dat marble boys aanbied, oor/neusringetjes met blauwe kraaltjes voor vrouwen die zwanger zijn van een jongetje. Maar we drijven af. Als we kijken wie Made Up Paradise heeft geschreven zien we de naam Daan Frieling. En die kennen we. Van The Koalaz, een psychedelische reggaeband die toevallig binnenkort in de Paradiso te zien zal zijn. Misschien een ideetje voor Marble Boy om het voorprogramma te doen. Hij is er toch.
