pMad delivers the next level with ‘Broken’

The new single from pMad, again self-released & is accompanied by another visual masterpiece of a video that follows the struggle of us all being ‘Broken’.

Paul Dillon is a solo artist from Portumna, Co. Galway, Ireland and has played with bands such as ‘Starve the Barber’ & ‘The Suicidal Dufflecoats’ & is currently a member of ‘The Greeting’ & now pMad.

During the pandemic Paul collaborated with Protonaut Studio(Germany) & Elith Mastering Labs (Mexico) & without ever being in the same room together created ‘Broken’ and his album which is due for release later in 2022.

pMad’s third single release ‘Broken’ is a mix of pMad’s vision of the times we are in, with vocals & lyrics to redeem us all, along with a sonic intensity that is both equally dark and uplifting, while ultimately leaving you with a feeling of hope!

pMad is ‘Broken’ in some form or another, just like everybody else. Knowing and understanding that we are all ‘Broken’ & being comfortable with that is the way to save ourselves.

Elke vrijdag om 21.00 uur draait de Volkskrant de fijnste plaatjes uit het nachtlevenartikel van de week op Pinguin Indie (pinguinradio.com). En we praten ze aan elkaar met een smakelijk college over de muziek in kwestie. Deze vrijdag hoor je Wieteke van Zeil over het fenomeen cool. De uitzending is daarna terug te luisteren op Pinguin Indie, waar ook de eerdere afleveringen te horen zijn (over waar rockdisco is gebleven, hoe de remix werd uitgevonden of hoe acid in 1988 een nieuwe hedonistische tijdgeest inluidde). MONOKINO RELEASES NEW SINGLE: ‘BABY’

Today, Monokino shares a brand new single entitled “Baby.” The track’s accompanying visual, created by Monokino himself, is made entirely of ASCII characters.

Monokino is the work of enigmatic Dutch pop composer and visual artist George van Wetering who currently resides between Nanjing, Shanghai and Amsterdam. His sound is an exhilarating, eccentric explosion of driving alternative-rock guitars, off-kilter electronica, and devilishly unadulterated POP!

Stylised new earworm Baby is another illustration of Monokino’s distinctive, quirky approach to song writing and his technicoloured imagination. The infectious, high-octane track is on a high-speed acceleration throughout with a rush of hyper-fast beats and infectious rapid fire guitar riffs laced with van Wetering’s distinctive transatlantic drawl.

The song’s energy and attitude wholly embodies the imagery in van Wetering’s head whilst he composed the track, as he explains…“I saw myself driving a racing car, singing ‘Baby’ in this Billy Idol kind of way,” with the lyrics loosely inspired by a personal experience of a one-sided relationship and the universally relatable regret at staying too long in a bad situation. As van Wetering expands:

“I was never enough for someone who claimed that I was her one and only. She often wanted to be alone, but when I was gone, it was not good either. Some days I was too feminine, other days just too masculine. People like Billy – in a speeding car – would have let go a long time ago already for sure.”

Baby’s accompanying visual is made entirely of ASCII characters and has a stylistic kind of retro-futurism perfectly befitting of Monokino’s sound.

Monokino has previously released two long-players, Fake Virtue and Human Error winning fans across Asia, Europe and North America, with Monokino releasing music via China’s largest independent label Modern Sky and Zip Records in the USA/the Netherlands. He has also collaborated with renowned American record producer and artist Tony Visconti and the artist Kristeen Young on their most popular track New Kid, alongside Dutch artist/producer Jacco Gardner.

Monokino has extensively toured the USA, Canada, China and the Netherlands and played huge international festivals from Strawberry Festival, Beijing and World Expo in Shanghai, to South by Southwest, Texas.

Baby follows the 2021 singles No Return, Bend or Break and Your Underground, all taken from Monokino’s forthcoming third album (expected later in 2022). All singles received attention from blogs worldwide, with plays from the late Janice Long on BBC Radio.

Vanavond om 21:00 uur Musicmaker Radio #8

Donderdag van 9 tot 10 ’s avonds hoor je op Musicmaker Radio muziek die bij de nieuwste editie van Musicmaker hoort, het magazine voor de muzikant.

In de maart-april editie van Musicmaker kom je alles tegen wat je als muzikant wilt weten over muziek maken en opnemen, de gear die je daarbij nodig hebt en over hoe je je muziek het beste in de markt zet.

Je vindt er een groot artikel over de muziek en panels van Eurosonic Noorderslag, inclusief interviews met Son Mieux, Sylvie Kreusch, Shishani en 4B2M. In deze editie ook een interview met Ruben Hein over zijn nieuwe cd die 25 februari uitkomt. Musicmaker spreekt ook twee kanjers op het internationale front: producer Frank Dukes en hitmaker Rajan Muse. Musicmaker Classic: In 2006 bezochten we de Hoornse band Johan in de studio voor het maken van hun album THX. Drie jaar later verscheen 4 en toen was het op. Johan was ten einde, maar de heren onder leiding van Jacob de Greeuw lieten een prachtige reeks nummers achter. Bijna tien jaar later, in 2018, was de band terug met Pull Up. Komt er meer? We hopen van wel, maar deze keer grijpen we terug naar Oceans van THX uit 2006.

Dour festival 2022 is terug met XXL-editie bomvol nieuwigheden

Dour, het grootste festival voor alternatieve muziek in Europa, doet wat het, het best doet: feesten! Dour wil haar publiek opnieuw samenbrengen, de vaste Dourgangers terugzien en de nieuwe festivalgangers met open armen verwelkomen. Aan de vijf standaard festivaldagen van Dour zijn nog eens twee extra dagen toegevoegd: Dour XXL. Naast headliners als Angèle, Flume en Carl Cox is er vooral ook veel aandacht voor minder bekende acts. Er staan ook een aantal Nederlandse acts op het programma, waaronder Sevdaliza, Reinier Zonneveld, Jameszoo’s Blind Group en Black Sun Empire ft. Multiplex.

Dit jaar kunnen de festivalgangers zich opwarmen voor een verrassing van formaat: CampFest, dat op 11 juli opent. Tijdens dit nieuwe evenement kunnen bezoekers de feestbenen losgooien, net voor het begin van het festival dat van 13 tot en met 17 juli plaatsvindt in het plaatsje Dour in België. “Tijdens de lockdown merkten we dat er heel wat mini-feestjes werden georganiseerd, wat ons op het idee bracht om het publiek dichter bij de artiesten te brengen. Want dat is CampFest: meerdere mini-festivals naast elkaar.” verklaart Alex Stevens, artistiek co-directeur van Dour Festival.

Op het programma van CampFest staan heel wat activiteiten, die zijn onderverdeeld in drie thema’s: selfcare, sport en zomerkamp. Festivalorganisator Damien Dufrasne legt uit: “We willen onze community na twee lange jaren in de spotlights zetten en verwennen. Er was een grote vraag vanuit de festivalgangers om de camping vroeger te openen – zo is CampFest geboren.”

Dour is, in de eerste plaats, een muziekfestival met een line-up van meer dan 220 acts op de affiche. De weide telt dit jaar meer dan acht podia. “Dour wil alle niche scènes samenbrengen en ze openbreken. Dat is de eigenheid van Dour, en waarom het zo’n succes heeft: we passen niet in één hokje.” zegt Stevens. Mathieu Fonsny, artistiek co-directeur voegt toe: “Dour is het festival van de tegencultuur, dat iedereen samenbrengt die denkt ergens buiten te vallen – ook al is dat eigenlijk niet zo. Ook onze programmering doet dat, we willen verder gaan en nieuwe dingen ontdekken. Als we een niche kiezen, dan graven we diep om iets te vinden met veel impact.” Vandaag worden nog eens 44 nieuwe namen aan de line-up toegevoegd. Bekijk de volledige affiche onderaan dit bericht.

Op Dour is iedereen die nieuwe muziek en nieuwe namen wil ontdekken op z’n plaats. Dour betekent verrast worden door de tomeloze energie van hiphop, door beukende technobeats en door gitaarriffs van de nieuwste indie sensaties. En naast headliners uit westerse landen, staan bijvoorbeeld ook acts uit Benin, Brazilië, Zuid-Afrika, Zuid-Soedan en Tanzania op het programma. Dour is: je laten betoveren door de nieuwste jazz, dub of gabber, je één voelen voor het podium en op de camping wakker worden met dikke ogen.

Dour festival heeft de afgelopen jaren geprobeerd voor elke festivalganger een passend slaapvertrek aan te bieden. In samenwerking met verschillende hotels uit de regio stelt Dour 2022 tal van packages samen. Ook zullen er shuttlebussen ingezet worden voor de festivalgangers. Uiteraard zijn er ook kampeermogelijkheden, met onder andere een Comfort Camping, de Green Camping, de traditionele Regular, Dour Les Bains en The Village. Ideaal voor een comfortabel en uniek verblijf.
