The Meadow laat de jaren ’90 herbeleven met debuut EP ‘Drowning’

Vol spanning en enthousiasme kondigt The Meadow, de opkomende alternative rockband uit Nederland, de release aan van hun debuut EP ‘Drowning’ die op 2 augustus verschijnt. Deze vier tracks tellende EP, volledig zelf geproduceerd en gemixt door de band, belooft luisteraars mee te nemen op een intense en emotionele reis door de diepste krochten van de menselijke psyche.

The Meadow spreekt met hun muziek rechtstreeks tot degenen die vertrouwd zijn met de nachtelijke uren en worstelen met de chaos van het bestaan. Met een duister en gritty randje duiken ze diep in thema’s als alcoholmisbruik, depressie en nachtmerries. ‘Drowning’ is een reflectie van hun meest persoonlijke, eerlijke en rauwe emoties en markeert een belangrijk moment voor de band, waarin ze hun geluid en imago hebben gevonden. “Deze EP is het begin van een nieuw pad voor ons, een pad waarvan de bestemming nog een raadsel is,” aldus de bandleden.

Twee nummers van de EP, ‘Friendly Reminder’ en ‘DOA’, werden eerder uitgebracht als singles en hebben gezamenlijk al 20.000 streams op Spotify bereikt. Dit succes toont de resonantie van hun muziek bij het publiek en geeft een voorproefje van de aankomende EP. De ruwe en harde sound van hun nummers vertaalt zich ook naar hun live-optredens en sociale media-uitingen, waarmee ze een meeslepende en energieke ervaring bieden. De nummers en de stijl van de band doet denken aan opkomende bands als Wunderhorse, Basht en Badflower, maar ook aan oude bekenden uit de jaren ’90 zoals Nirvana en Audioslave.

De band staat deze na-zomer ook geregeld op de planken met optredens in Podium34 in Borger (21 september), City Hotel De Jonge in Assen (27 september) en Het Vliegende Paard in Zwolle (20 november). Fans kunnen zich verheugen op meer data die binnenkort worden aangekondigd.

Raoul & the Wisemen release their new single Nice Try

Friday July 26th, Amsterdam based band Raoul & the Wisemen will release their new single ‘Nice Try’. A song about choosing for yourself. What do you do when you realize somebody is playing games with you? Exactly, you confront the other and choose for yourself. Nice Try will be released during the Amsterdam Pride month. The band will  play their new single for the first time during ‘Alle Kleuren Oost’, a pride event in the east of the city.

Raoul & the Wisemen plays a melodical brew of pop and alternative music that makes you dream, melancholic and hopeful at the same time. It might remind you of Keane-like melodies, the warmth and richness of HEAVN and voices from the 80’ies like Marian Gold (Alphaville), George Michael and even the sweetness of Michael Bublé. Their productions flirt with both acoustic and electronical elements, their songs are like short stories.

BIO

Danser en choreograaf Elliot Boyd maakt alternatieve popmuziek die doet denken aan artiesten als James Blake, Oscar & the Wolf en Sevdaliza. Hij studeerde songwriting in Engeland, won de Rob Acda Award, stond op de mainstage van Bevrijdingspop Haarlem voor 20.000 man, deed afgelopen jaar mee aan de Popronde, speelde in het voorjaar een RADAR-show in de Melkweg, stond in de finale van 3FM Trending Talent en staat met zijn laatste release in de internationale playlist GLOW op Spotify met 1 miljoen luisteraars.

DE EP ARTIFICIAL BLISS

De EP Artificial Bliss gaat over de vraag: “Wat is echt en wat niet?”. Zo creëer ik tijdelijk geluk terwijl ik me diep van binnen mentaal niet goed voel, beland ik in relaties die me doen wegdrijven van de werkelijkheid, betwijfel ik de oprechtheid van anderen en haal ik kracht uit iemand die er niet meer is.

ARTIFICIAL BLISS – DEMO

Elliot, die meestal donkere pop maakt, schrijft nu een nummer dat klinkt als een mooie warme zomeravond in het park. De tekst gaat over zijn strijd met depressie, die hij lange tijd negeerde. Ondanks de dromerige klanken, blijft de zware thematiek aanwezig. Sinds COVID-19 is depressie toegenomen, en Elliot, die het moeilijk vond om hulp te zoeken vanwege het taboe, wil met dit nummer vooral mannen aanmoedigen om open te zijn over hun mentale gezondheid en hulp te zoeken.

Het schrijven van ‘Artificial Bliss’ begon toen ik in Engeland studeerde met Laura Kindelan. We schreven het eerste couplet over hoe je gelukkig kunt lijken, maar je zo niet voelt. Ik zocht toen veel afleiding om mijn gevoelens te vermijden. Later voltooide ik de demo in Londen met violist Jed Holland, die ook speelt voor Eloise en James Smith. Terug in Nederland maakte ik een elektronische productie met Boudewijn Scholten. De sound is een mix van Frank Ocean, Raye en een vleugje Sevdaliza. De dromerige klanken en verdrietige tekst maken het het perfecte ‘sad summer’ nummer van 2024.

Birds of Coloured Glass; a Poetic Ode to the Arts from Danish Indie Artist Bjarke Ramsing

Bjarke Ramsing’s latest single; Birds of Coloured Glass, blends an array of fierce acoustic guitar riffs with soulful melodies and poignant lyrics. Delivering a poetic ode to the arts that aims to stand the test of time.

Arnhem based singer songwriter Bjarke Ramsing is set to release Birds of Coloured Glass on July 19th, 2024. The single is a beautiful personal ballad, contemplating the rules of the game while driving home from a show. The single joins a new generation of contemporary urban folk songs, valuing the craft of more complex arrangements and elaborate story telling. The single will be available on all major streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Youtube, Bandcamp, etc.

Bjarke Ramsing had his musical upbringing with friends in the southern countrysides of Denmark. Shaping his own musical style from remnants of old American Folk, Blues and Roots music. For years he toured through Europe and overseas. Making his way by playing on street corners and in bars.

Birds of Coloured Glass is a culmination of all these years of travels. Featuring an array of musicians from throughout the years. Celebrating music across borders. And bridging a gab between a musical career had in Denmark and current in the Netherlands.

The base of the single is held up by Bjarke’s faithful Dutch quartet with Teun van Langen on double bass, Floris Venema on drums and Annelies Jonkers on violin. On harmonies the single features Dutch Ruud Fieten and Romee Cooler from Holi Fools and Spanish Ari Bombari from Legiana. And from Denmark Simon Krindel on keys. Drawing some heavy connotations back to some of the early work of Bjarke. With songs like Run Away or A Lilac Panther Outro. As the outro of the single morphs into a long patchworks of roaring, gritty and droney explosion. Making one more think about what stoner rock would have sounded like had it been played on acoustic instruments.

The single is the first preview of a full-length album that will be ready by end of October 2024. All songs are recorded and produced at Bjarke’s own small studio in Arnhem and on locations in Denmark. Mastered by Wytse Gerichhausen from White Sea Studio. And with artwork by Mirka Farabegoli.

All in all, definitely a listen worthy.

Death Snapped(Studio version) is an Alternative rock track written by Loveth Besamoh and recorded at Far Out Studio Rotterdam. This studio version of the 2022 bedroom release Death Snapped captures the live bands growth and versatility, remaining true to the garage punk energy of the 2022 release whilst infusing it with new life and character under guidance of Niek Driesschen from Far Out Studio.

BIO

Loveth Besamoh is a 24-year-old producer and songwriter from Rotterdam. He migrated to the Netherlands from Cameroon in 2014 where he consolidated his love for music.

Loveth grew up in a very musical and rhythmic environment in Cameroon. He played percussion at church and boarding school which served as an excellent rhythmic background for him. In the Netherlands, he got exposed to music genres he had never heard of before in Cameroon which very was inspiring.

He later went on to start and play in several bands to date. Some notable bands Loveth played  in are Lorne and Bed.

On the side, Loveth experimented with music production in his bedroom where he learned the basics of recording and production. He enrolled at Albeda music production to further these skills where he graduated as a music producer. His passion for music isn’t only limited to producing music as he has also gone on to start a multimedia platform called Fuzz where they showcase upcoming talents from around the country.

Besamoh’s music is a merger of genres ranging from Electronica, afro rock, post-punk, soul, and rhythms he grew up listening to and playing in church back in Cameroon. Loveth tries to bring his roots back in all his productions. Loveth Besamoh blends and shifts genres with ease to create his psych brand of music.

He started his solo self titled project Loveth Besamoh during the start of the pandemic and went on to write and produce several singles and 3 EPs in his studio apartment in Den Haag and Rotterdam. Satisfied with his first projects Loveth put together an Eclectic band for his live escapades. They have been active in the dutch touring circuit since 2021.

The Loveth Besamoh band has gone on to play notable dutch festivals like North Sea Round Town, Motel Mozaique, Popronde and Sniester.

His 6 part Ep Weather Report drops in September on Vinyl, cassette and digitally on all platforms.

The band is working on a tour in september in support of the Ep and working on their first international shows in November and January.

Besamoh’s biggest inspirations are bands such as, Pasteur Lappe, Fela Kuti, Kino, Kraftwerk, WH Lung, The stooges, King Gizzard, alt-j.

Release ‘Agency’
