Vanavond om 21:00 uur Musicmaker Radio #55

Donderdag van 9 tot 10 ’s avonds hoor je op Musicmaker Radio muziek die bij de nieuwste editie van Musicmaker hoort, het magazine voor de muzikant.

Het laatste Kong-album ‘Stern’ verscheen tien jaar geleden, maar alle muzikale ontwikkelingen sindsdien ten spijt: hun nieuwe album ‘Traders Of Truth’ is bijna onmogelijk te omschrijven. Zeker, het Amsterdamse kwartet speelt een vorm van progressieve rock, waarin de zware riffs van Tijs Keverkamp en David Kox hand in hand gaan met elektronica, samples en soundscapes. De muziek is altijd onvoorspelbaar en – hoe toepasselijk bij een instrumentale band – woorden doen de creativiteit van het Amsterdamse kwartet geen recht. (Kevin Pasman)

Voorafgaand aan de release op 16 maart van hun nieuwe album en de clubtour die 30 maart start in Paradiso én hun lange tour door de VS in juli, staat Altin Gún morgen, vrijdag 3 maart, in Metropool, Hengelo. De band biedt een opwindende mix van Turkse folk, psychedelia, funk en rock. Altın Gün laat horen wat er gebeurt als je Turkse volksmuziek combineert met stampende funkritmes, wah-wah gitaargolven en waaierende analoge orgels. De groep voegt invloeden uit het verleden en het heden samen tot catchy, upbeat popliedjes en tovert daarmee elke concertzaal en festivalweide om tot één grote dampende dansmassa.

Pinguin Radio presenteert om 22:00 uur Heaven Radio #362

Pinguin Radio en Popmagazine Heaven delen twee belangrijke eigenschappen: een passie voor goede muziek en een volstrekt onafhankelijke opstelling. Dat moest natuurlijk tot een samenwerking leiden.

Heaven verzorgt iedere dinsdagavond van 22:00 tot 23:00 een uur lang de muziek op Pinguin Radio. Net als Pinguin heeft Heaven oor voor – bijna – alle popmuziek. In het uurtje radio hoor je muziek uit verschillende genres: (classic)rock, roots, folk, soul, world, jazz en blues.

Liefhebbers van Heaven Radio luisteren natuurlijk ook naar ons zachtere zusje Pinguin Pluche.

The Others

Postcards From Mars announces sophomore album ‘ego death’ and releases first single in 5 years ‘The Others’ today.

Five years after the last singles ‘Swallow’ and ‘The Whale’, Postcards From Mars announces his sophomore album ‘ego death’, set to be released May 12, 2023. Bart van Dalen’s new material dives deep into his psyche with a new vulnerability and more urgent sound, opening up a window into his insecurities, bouts of depression and the magical workings of creativity. Cathartically, what is inside comes crawling out.

The first double single of the new album is called ‘The Others’ and is out everywhere today. A-side ‘The Others’ is a forward driven song about comparison, self-will and criticism.

The sound reminds one of Kevin Morby or Cass McCombs. The single also features an adventurous B- side called ‘Himalaya’. Side by side, the two songs give us a sweet inkling of what the full length album might sound like. After a couple years of intensively writing and touring with his other music project Donna Blue, Van Dalen got the restless itch to work on his solo material again.

Together with friend and producer Roy van Rosendaal he set off to finish the collection of songs that will make up the very personal second album ‘ego death’.
