Marble Boy – Made Up Paradise

Op Made Up Paradise komt Marble Boy uit de verf als een leerling van de Mac DeMarco school voor laid back , lo fi wegdroompop.

Marble Boy is voor ons een nieuwe naam dus we moesten even op zoek naar het wie, waar en waarom. Google leert ons dat er nog een Marble Boy is, in Rusland. Die boy is overigens een girl. Er bestaat ook een boek dat The Marble Boy heet. En er is een piercingsbedrijf dat marble boys aanbied, oor/neusringetjes met blauwe kraaltjes voor vrouwen die zwanger zijn van een jongetje. Maar we drijven af. Als we kijken wie Made Up Paradise heeft geschreven zien we de naam Daan Frieling. En die kennen we. Van The Koalaz, een psychedelische reggaeband die toevallig binnenkort in de Paradiso te zien zal zijn. Misschien een ideetje voor Marble Boy om het voorprogramma te doen. Hij is er toch.

COLOGNE/NICE/L.A. – Jan 13th, 2023. Formed in 2020, THE HYBRIS spent the next years writing and producing their debut album ‘Music, Vol. 1’, which was released in June 2022. It is a truly international project, the trio lives in Germany, France and the US and writes and produces their music remotely.

“Impostor Syndrome” is the next output of the group, released on Jan 13th, 2023. The song is about a feeling many of us know – not being good enough. Not good enough in your job, not good enough for relationships, not good enough to create anything of value. It’s a dialogue with a well-meaning friend.

“Our music moves between pop, punk, indie rock and alternative rock, I think it sounds some kind of retro. The songs are sometimes quite different, “Impostor Syndrome is a bit more punk than other songs of the band, but we still try to create a consistent, recognizable style. People quickly compare you with existing bands, critics have compared us to bands like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Killers, Billy Talent or Foo Fighters – which is an incredible compliment for us.” (Ringo)

ABOUT THE HYBRIS

The HYBRIS is an international Alternative Rock project of three friends. Originally all members lived in Germany, they know each other for many, many years. In the past they played in different combinations in various punk, rock, pop and hardcore bands.
Then the trio was spread all over the world for professional or family reasons, today they live in Nice, in L.A. and in Cologne, but still – and more than ever – make music again. They write and produce everything on their own, in a joint virtual recording studio. Every member plays various instruments and contributes what the current piece of music needs.

And why this name? In Greek tragedy ‘Hybris’ stood for exaggerated self-pride, arrogance, excess of ambition causing the transgressor’s ruin. The perfect headline for the age we live in.

Their lyrics often show political attitude – well, rock songs without attitude are crap, right? But why these silly masks? Isn’t this mask thing worn out? THE HYBRIS creates their music as Ringo Rabbit, Beanie Bison and Malcolm Mandrill – three wannabe superheroes on a mission to save the world. “We felt like doing something ‘different’. At first it was a stupid idea, but meanwhile we think it is pretty cool.”

Some suspect, they want to make themselves more interesting than they really are. Others believe it is a smart move – since they’re incredibly ugly in real life.

DIRK. – No

Met No laat het Belgische DIRK. horen ook met het vlottere werk goed uit de voeten te kunnen.

De derde en waarschijnlijk laatste voorloper van het Idiot Paradiso album is een energieke rocker met een refrein waar je als het eenmaal is ingedaald moeilijk van afkomt. Aan solo’s doen de DIRK.‘s niet, aan tierelantijnen ook niet. Net als de titel is No een kort en krachtig statement van een band die de top van zijn kunnen nadert. Album volgt op 3 maart.

Optredens zijn er op 22/3 in de Muziekgieterij in Maastricht, de 23ste in Altstad, Eindhoven, de 24ste in Rotown, Rotterdam en hopelijk deze zomer op een (of meer) van onze festivals.

Solomon – Lay It Down

Alternative/indie rockband Solomon komt uit Maastricht en met behulp van een internationaal team, verantwoordelijk voor het geluid van o.a. Bastille, Thom Yorke, Keane, Björk en Mumford & Sons, hebben ze een indringend geluid gecreëerd dat doet denken aan acts als The National, Editors en Elbow.

Op 20 januari komt hun debuutalbum uit en na de eerste singles Nobody Knows, Run en The Box verscheen recent nog de track Lay It Down. Het vijftal was een van de meest geboekte Popronde acts in 2022 en op 21 januari zijn ze te zien op Noorderslag.

Hyena’s

De “Alternatieve Space rock” van Max Alexander is het enige Nederlandstalige alternatief voor liefhebbers van Muse, Hans Zimmer en Pink Floyd. Het laat je een hoek van Nederland zien waarbij de synthesizers door de ruimte vliegen en de scheurende gitaarpartijen je los trekken van tijd en plaats. Met zijn fascinatie voor ruimte, planeten stapte Max Alexander los van de mode industrie en zijn eigen mannenlabel om zijn extraverte denkwijze te vertalen in zijn diepste passie; muziek. De fascinatie voor het niet aardse en a-typische bestaan hoor je ook terug in klassieke zang performances, akkoord progressies en de melodieuze rifs die de muziek typeren. Met een filosofische blik en schrijfstijl haalt hij veel maatschappelijke kwesties naar het hier en nu.

Max schrijft en zingt voor grote namen in de Hard Dance Industry. Hij werkt samen met artiesten zoals Sub Zero Project, B-Front & Ran-D. De streams lopen samen al over de 6 Miljoen en dat is niet het einde van zijn eigen universum in aanbouw!
