Kaminski signs with AudioSport Records

On September 16th Kaminski’s debut album My Diary Lied will be released via AudioSport Records, Leeuwarden. ‘A dark and personal manifesto, with an urgency that needs to be heard,’ the label explains. ‘As a label, we focus on the Frisian indie and rock scene and we have a weakness for music that is heartfelt and honest. Kaminski fits right in here’.

The 10-track album was recorded during the corona lockdown in Kaminski’s garage. In the safety of his quarantine, fanning out old photographs, searching for the meaning of childhood anxiety dreams, and exploring perpetual inhibitions that had been characterizing him for years, a clear but gloomy central theme emerged: the struggles of a child growing up in a religious cult. Musically, Kaminski navigates between indie, slowcore, and elements of prog rock.

The album My Diary Lied will be released on vinyl by AudioSport Records, and will also be available via all streaming platforms.

The Murlocs – Compos Mentis

Het Australische vijftal van de ‘energetic, punky and psychedelic’ rock band The Murlocs opereert vanuit Melbourne en “Rapscallion” is alweer hun zesde studio-album. Met leden uit bands als Orb, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Crepes en Beans kun je The Murlocs waarachtig een ‘dynamic musical collective’ noemen en ‘strapped with fuzzy guitar licks, feverish bass-lines and psychedelic brightness’ bevat hun nieuwe album ‘an ultimate mix of bluesy feelgood, laidback stoner, fun punk and catchy 60’s tinged rock’!

The Sheepdogs – So Far Gone

Een beetje blues en roots naar de mensen toe! En dat nog wel uit Canada, als je southern states van de USA zou zeggen, zou je het ook geloven. The Sheepdogs halen de mosterd bij CCR en Allman Brothers vandaan, voeg daar een T-Rex basloopje aan toe en je hebt een heerlijk retro sound te pakken zoals op So Far Gone. Een single van hun nieuwe album Outta Sight, hun zevende alweer.

DMA’S – I Don’t Need To Hide

Na drie studioalbums heeft het Australische rocktrio DMA’s een soort van mythische status verworven onder fans. Hun wereld is er eentje van aanvaarding, vrijheid van expressie en gedeelde emoties.

Vorige langspeler THE GLOW (2020) katapulteerde de band recht naar de top van de charts (#4 in UK, #2 in Schotland en #2 in Australië). I Don’t Need To Hide is hun nieuwste single en het opwindende geluid van een band op de top van hun kunnen. “There’s a confidence you obtain when you find someone who loves you for all your faults, quirks and obscurities. They make you feel like you don’t need to hide anything from anyone anymore”, aldus gitarist Jonny Took.

Warhaus – It Had To Be You

Balthazar zit midden in een drukke festivaltour, afgelopen weekend nog op Lowlands, maar dat weerhoudt Maarten Devoldere zich er niet van om muziek te maken en uit te brengen met zijn project Warhaus. Onlangs kwam de eerste single Open Window van het aankomende album al uit, maar die viel stiekem een beetje tegen. Vonden wij dan.  Het nieuwe nummer It Had To Be You valt bij ons beter in de smaak. Mysterieus en zwoel met rijke instrumentatie zoals we Warhaus graag horen. Op 15 november komt Warhaus langs in de Helling in Utrecht. Dat belooft “intiem” te worden.

Abramo Abramo – Speedboat

Abramo Abramo is het nieuwe muzikale project van Bram Kniest (drummer Go Back To The Zoo, St. Tropez). Zijn muziek wordt wel omschreven als ‘Ennio Morricone meets Joy Division’. Interessant! In maart verscheen de eerste single A Dream of a Night in Mexico, nu is het de beurt aan single nummer vier ‘Speedboat’. Een lekker bondig rock ‘n roll nummer van Bram!

Popwarmer: King Princess – Let Us Die

De Amerikaanse zangeres/muzikante King Princess ken je waarschijnlijk wel van haar pophit 1950. En de indieluisteraar ook wel van haar gitaarnummer Ohio uit februari 2020. Nu is Mikaela Mullaney Straus aka King Princess terug met haar tweede studioalbum Hold On Baby. De laatste single daarvan is Let Us Die. En dat is tevens het laatste studionummer waarop de onlangs overleden drummer Taylor Hawkins van Foo Fighters is te horen. Een nogal ongemakkelijke titel dus. Het nummer is krachtig en met veel rock zoals we Taylor en King Princess graag horen.

Bayline – Bleeding Hearts

Bleeding Hearts is out now!

The song is a wake-up call to people rioting without a just purpose. The
“rebel without a cause” lines refer to the Dutch riots of ’21, with the
sudden mob mentality scaring a lot of innocent people.

This is the second single of the upcoming EP, which is set to be released September 23rd in collaboration with White Russian records.

Wax Machine – Springtime

Uit Brighton komt Wax Machine, een surfrockband met psychedelische en tropische Braziliaanse invloeden, denk aan Os Mutantes. Met een beetje fantasie verandert de Engelse badplaats Brighton in de copacobana. Het vijftal bracht in 2020 hun debuutalbum uit en wapenfeit #2 Hermit’s Grove is nu beschikbaar. De song Springtime vinden wij momenteel het prettigst, dus die hoor je nieuw op Pinguin Indie. Ideetje: Nick Mulvey op tour met Wax Machine?
